Chris Lynn has been a renowned star in the shorter version of the game. Although, in a league with many more stars as the Indian Premier League, and a team like Mumbai Indians, he has often found himself being underutilized. So much so that the Australian batsman did not get even a single game in the entire 2020 edition.

His franchise having the services of some scintillating top-order batsmen and openers like Rohit Sharma, Quinton de Kock, Ishan Kishan, and Suryakumar Yadav has meant that Lynn has to constantly fight for his position and serve as a backup to the first-choice players.

That is what happened when the Mumbai Indians (MI) met the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opening game of the 14th edition of the IPL, where the Aussie got an opportunity to open the innings alongside skipper Rohit Sharma, as their preferred opener, Quinton de Kock, was unavailable due to his quarantine protocols.

Grabbing the opportunity with both hands, Lynn smacked a 35-ball 49, falling only a run short of his half-century. While de Kock is going to be available from the second game onwards, for now, Lynn has ensured to give some headache to the management through his promising performance on his MI debut.

Happy birthday to our very own Johnny: Krunal Pandya

After a good start to the tournament, Lynn is now in the headlines due to a hilarious banter between him and his teammate, Krunal Pandya as while celebrating the former’s birthday, Pandya hilariously called him Johnny Sins. Notably, Lynn does resemble Sins.

Pandya can be seen cheering from behind, “Happy birthday to our very own Jonny.” Other players were also heard saying ‘Johnny’ during the celebrations. Funnily, the cricketer has himself admitted that he “prefer Johnny Sins” as a look-a-like.

Mumbai Indians are in line to play their next game at Chennai against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Continuing with the trend of losing their opening encounter every year, they suffered a loss by two wickets against RCB on 9th April 2021. It remains to be seen if Lynn will secure his place in the side.
