There’s something with Punjab Kings and unpredictable results. Days after shockingly chocking against Rajasthan Royals, the KL Rahul-led side defended a paltry 125 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. It was indeed a thrilling game as quality bowling was witnessed from both camps. However, the 20-over-format demands a winner at the end of the day, and Punjab Kings finished on top this time.

As far as the proceedings of the game are concerned, the coin landed in SRH’s favour and Kane Williamson opted to bowl. With the track being on the slower side, runs were not easy to come by as wickets fell at regular intervals. From KL Rahul to Nicholas Pooran, no PBKS batter could play an innings of substance. Nevertheless, some handy contributions from the lower order meant PBKs somehow posted 125/7.

Although the target wasn’t massive, SRH never got going. Mohammed Shami and Arshdeep Singh bowled brilliantly with the new ball as the scoring rate was always on the lower side. The duo passed on the baton to leg-spinner Ravi Bishnoi who took three crucial wickets. Jason Holder’s big-hitting did add some drama in the end overs. However, the Caribbean all-rounder couldn’t save his side from a five-run defeat.

While PBKS advanced to fifth place with this win, SRH’s remained at rock-bottom. With eight losses in nine games, Hyderabad’s campaign is all but over and it would be interesting to see how they approach their upcoming assignments.

Meanwhile, here are the important stats and numbers from the SRH vs PBKS clash in IPL 2021:

200 – Punjab Kings, previously known as Kings XI Punjab, became the fifth team to play 200 IPL matches. Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders are the other sides holding the milestone.

3 – David Warner became the third overseas player after Kieron Pollard and AB de Villiers to feature in 150 IPL matches.

3/24 – Ravi Bishnoi recorded his best figures in the Indian Premier League. His previous best was 3/29 against SRH only last year.

20 – Sunrisers Hyderabad were 20/2 at the end of 6 overs, the lowest powerplay score this season. Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians recorded powerplay scores of 21 against Delhi Capitals and Punjab Kings respectively.

20 – This is also Sunrisers Hyderabad’s lowest score in powerplay in IPL history. The previous lowest was 21/3 was Rajasthan Royals in 2013.

6 – Rashid Khan dismissed Chris Gayle for the sixth time in T20 cricket. Only Dwayne Bravo (7) has dismissed the Caribbean batter more often in this format.

47 – Jason Holder recorded his highest score in IPL. His previous highest was 26 vs Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2020.

4 – Holder also became the fourth player to score 40-plus and take three or more wickets in the same game. While Yuvraj Singh did this thrice, David Wiese and Hardik Pandya are the other two players on the list.

2 – 126 is the second-lowest total defended by Punjab in IPL. In 2009, the side defended 120 against Mumbai Indians in Durban.

126 – This is also the lowest target SRH have failed to chase down in IPL. Last year, they failed to chase 127 against the Punjab-based outfit only.
