The Punjab Kings (PBKS) side is getting its resources ready for the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) that will commence on 9th April 2021. And now, news has come in that they have roped in Australian Damien Wright as the bowling coach of their franchise ahead of the 14th IPL edition.

Wright is an experienced campaigner when it comes to coaching. He was earlier the bowling coach of New Zealand, then coached the Melbourne Stars, and has also been the Head Coach of the Under-19 Bangladesh side. Wright brings with him a wealth of experience as he has donned the role of a coach for a decade with various sides.

In fact, the official handle of the Punjab Kings confirmed the news about the arrival of Wright into their camp. “Wright has come to the right place. Another Aussie on-board,” tweeted the official handle of the Punjab Kings (PBKS). You can see the tweet from the franchise below.

The Punjab Kings splashed money in the 2021 IPL auction

The Punjab Kings did not experience a good campaign in the 13th edition of the IPL that was held in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) last year. The KL Rahul-led side could only win 6 out of the 14 games that it played in the tournament and finished at 6th place. And, to strengthen their squad, the side splashed a lot of money in the 2021 IPL auction that was held in Chennai.

The side spent a whopping amount of INR 14 Crores to pouch pacer Jhye Richardson. They also spent INR 8 Crores to procure the services of Riley Meredith. Shahrukh Khan was bought for INR 5.25 Crores, Aussie all-rounder Moises Henriques was bought by the franchise for INR 4.20 and Dawid Malan was bought for INR 1.5 Crores. While Fabien Allen was bought for a sum of INR 75 Lakhs, they also bought Jalaj Saxena, Utkarsh Singh, and Saurabh Kumar as well.

Also, ahead of the 2021 IPL edition, the side also changed its name to Punjab Kings (PBKS) as well. In fact, the Punjab side has never won the IPL trophy in 13 attempts and has not even qualified for the playoffs in the last 6 editions of the IPL.
