Kolkata Knight Riders have managed to qualify for the final of the 2021 IPL where they will lock horns with the Chennai Super Kings at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium. On Wednesday, Eoin Morgan and Co beat the Delhi Capitals by eight wickets at the Sharjah Cricket Stadiums. With the win, the Knights won their seventh game in the UAE leg and showed why they are a brute force.

KKR not allowing DC to get away

After electing to field first, the Knight Riders restricted the Capitals to 135 for the loss of five wickets. Prithvi Shaw scored a 12-ball 18 with two fours and a six before Varun Chakravarthy trapped him plumb in front. Shikhar Dhawan and Marcus Stoinis steadied the ship with a 39-run stand for the second wicket. Earlier Marcus Stoinis returned to the Capitals’ playing eleven, replacing Tom Curran.

Stoinis crawled to 18 before Shivam Mavi rattled his woodwork. Dhawan couldn’t go beyond a run-a-ball, but scored a handy 36. In the end, it was Shreyas Iyer’s unbeaten 30 that took the Capitals to some sort of respectability. Shimron Hetmyer also scored a quickfire 10-ball 17. Chakravarthy was the pick of the KKR bowlers as he got two wickets. Lockie Ferguson and Mavi got a wicket apiece.

Iyer and Gill shine

The Knights started on a blistering note, scoring 51 runs in the powerplay. Even as Shubman Gill played with a bit of caution, Venkatesh Iyer went for his shots from the word go. Iyer carried on with his decent run of form and scored his third fifty in the ongoing IPL. Iyer scored 55 off 41 balls with four fours and three sixes. He was also involved in a 96-run for the opening wicket with Gill.

Kagiso Rabada got rid of Iyer with a short-pitched ball that the batter failed to time properly. Steve Smith took a decent catch in the deep. Thereafter, Nitish Rana smashed a six to take the Knights closer to their target. Gill got out after a run-a-ball 46, but by then the writing was already on the walls for DC. In the end, Rahul Tripathi smashed Ravi Ashwin for a six to take the Knights home.
