All-rounders are an essential part of cricket teams and they are the ones who provide balance to the team. A team would find it extremely difficult to function without them as they give flexibility to the team and having more than one all-rounder even allows the team to play an extra batsman or an extra bowler. We have seen several world-class all-rounders in the history of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL </a>including the likes of Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, and Andre Russell.

Even in general, all-rounders are considered to be among the biggest matchwinners as they usually have two chances to impact the game in a substantial way. Even in the upcoming IPL, there will be several top-class all-rounders in action and they can prove to be the key once again. Mumbai Indians have won the last 2 titles and they have some of the very best in that role as well. In the same line, here is-

Delhi Capitals had their most successful campaign last season as they finished 2nd to the Mumbai Indians. As a result, they didn’t have to change their squad a whole lot and were relatively quiet during the auction. Their primary all-rounder will be Marcus Stoinis, who was one of their best players last season.

He scored 352 runs in 17 games at a strike rate of nearly 150 and also picked up 13 wickets as their 6th bowler. Their other all-rounder, Axar Patel is also quite good and chipped in with some important contributions. The left-handed batsman can play big shots during the fag end of the innings and is primarily a container with the ball, and doesn’t really pick up many wickets.

Ravichandran Ashwin is a world-class all-rounder in <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/reports-australia-likely-to-host-afghanistan-for-one-off-test-during-2021-22-summer-in-november/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Test </a>matches, but the same can’t be said in T20s. His batting value is considerably less in this format,  and he doesn’t really add much to the batting lineup. Chris Woakes is a very good cricketer in Test matches and ODIs, but it has been nearly three years since he has played a T20 game. Tom Curran’s batting has improved a lot, but his main asset that is bowling has been quite ineffective and he has been conceding too many runs in recent times.

They bought more complete all-rounders this time around as the likes of Moises Henriques and Fabian Allen can contribute in both aspects of the game. However, whether they will be first-choice players or not remains to be seen and it will depend on the type of combination they want. However, in any given combination, only one of them will be able to make the team.

Jalaj Saxena has been quite an effective all-rounder in the domestic circuit for a long time, but he is unlikely to have the same kind of impact in the IPL. They have retained Hooda and Jordan, while also buying Shahrukh Khan. Overall, their all-rounder&#8217;s department isn’t quite strong and their 2 best all-rounders are likely to start on the bench.

SRH’s all-rounders are pretty much the same as last season given they retained 22 players ahead of the auction. Three of their overseas slots will be occupied by David Warner, Rashid Khan, and one of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/heres-the-amazing-coincidence-between-wtc-final-dates-and-virat-kohli-and-kane-williamson/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kane Williamson</a> and Jonny Bairstow, which leaves just one more slot.

That overseas slot is likely to be taken up by one of SRH’s three overseas all-rounders in the form of Mitchell Marsh, Jason Holder, and Mohammad Nabi. Marsh was picked in their first game last season, but he was ruled out due to injury, and his replacement player, Holder made the most of his chances and became a key player for them.

Thus, the West Indian will most likely be given first preference this season. Nabi might come into the team if the pitch is in favour of spin. All three of them are quite effective and do their job, but none of them are out-and-out matchwinners, which means they can only be 6th on the list. If he exhibited better form during previous IPLs, they could have been higher than they are. Kyle Jamieson has been excellent in Test matches, but he is far from being a top T20 all-rounder as was seen during New Zealand’s series against Australia.

Daniel Christian has been performing well in the Big Bash, he has never been able to perform to the same standards in the IPL and it will be interesting to see how he plays. Washington Sundar has shown immense potential with the bat in recent times, and we could see him being utilized as an all-rounder this season rather than just being a bowler. Daniel Sams will most likely just be a backup, and his performance last season wasn’t quite impressive.

Mumbai Indians have always built a solid team with great options and depth in all areas, and thus it isn’t surprising that they have won five titles. They have some top-class all-rounders in their squad with Hardik Pandya being the best one. He has resumed bowling and looked in good rhythm during the series against England, and we all know how destructive he can be with the bat in hand.

Kieron Pollard is also one of the most dangerous finishers and even fulfilled the role of 6th bowler last season due to Hardik’s injury issues which prevented him from bowling at the time. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/our-father-passed-away-at-4-oclock-in-the-morning-krunal-pandya-has-been-carrying-his-stuff-from-there-on-hardik-pandya/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Krunal Pandya</a> had a poor season in 2020, but his form has improved since then and he has even made it to the ODI squad.

Kolkata Knight Riders arguably have the best all-rounder in the league in Andre Russell and when in full form, he is a very valuable asset. Although his batting wasn’t quite great last season, it was probably just a minor blip and one can expect him to come back with a bang. Even his bowling is quite good, and he picks up crucial wickets whilst also being effective at the death.

They even have Sunil Narine in their ranks and even though he has lost some form, he isn’t a bad option to have in the squad. Shakib al Hasan is likely to start ahead of him as the spin-bowling all-rounder and an all-round duo of him and Russell would provide immense balance to the XI as both of them are proper batsmen while also being capable of bowling 4 overs each.

They also have Ben Cutting in their squad, and he is one of the best possible backups KKR could have gotten for Andre Russell. Even Pat Cummins can be considered as an all-rounder given how he has batted for <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/india-vs-england-australia-legend-jeff-thomsons-name-shines-after-prasidh-krishnas-terrific-international-debut/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Australia </a>in recent times. In terms of Indians, Pawan Negi and Venkatesh Iyer are their only options and they are unlikely to play many games.

After a dismal campaign last season, the Rajasthan Royals look determined to bounce back strongly and they had a good auction as well. Their main buy at the auction was Chris Morris and if we go by his performances, he has been one of the top all-rounders in the league over the past few seasons.

Kolkata Knight Riders arguably have the best all-rounder in the league in Andre Russell and when in full form, he is a very valuable asset. Although his batting wasn’t quite great last season, it was probably just a minor blip and one can expect him to come back with a bang. Even his bowling is quite good, and he picks up crucial wickets whilst also being effective at the death.
They even have Sunil Narine in their ranks and even though he has lost some form, he isn’t a bad option to have in the squad. Shakib al Hasan is likely to start ahead of him as the spin-bowling all-rounder and an all-round duo of him and Russell would provide immense balance to the XI as both of them are proper batsmen while also being capable of bowling 4 overs each.
They also have Ben Cutting in their squad, and he is one of the best possible backups KKR could have gotten for Andre Russell. Even Pat Cummins can be considered as an all-rounder given how he has batted for <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/india-vs-england-australia-legend-jeff-thomsons-name-shines-after-prasidh-krishnas-terrific-international-debut/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Australia </a>in recent times. In terms of Indians, Pawan Negi and Venkatesh Iyer are their only options and they are unlikely to play many games.

After a dismal campaign last season, the Rajasthan Royals look determined to bounce back strongly and they had a good auction as well. Their main buy at the auction was Chris Morris and if we go by his performances, he has been one of the top all-rounders in the league over the past few seasons.
He is excellent at the death with both bat and ball, which isn’t everyone’s cup of tea. They also have Jofra Archer in their ranks who is capable of winning games single-handedly, but his absence during the first half of the season will be a major loss for the Royals. Ben Stokes hasn’t really fired for the Royals in his three-year stint, but he looked much better last season when they decided to open with him.
<a href="https://www.crictracker.com/it-shows-that-they-lack-dedication-of-what-it-takes-to-play-international-cricket-brad-hogg-slams-varun-chakravarthy-and-rahul-tewatia/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Rahul Tewatia </a>was one of the surprise packages of last season and with his performances, he even earned a callup to the Indian team. RR also bought Shivam Dube and he will play a crucial role for them in the middle order. Even the likes of Riyan Parag and Shreyas Gopal can do an acceptable job in their secondary departments, and on the whole, their lineup is packed with several multi-dimensional players.

All-rounders are an essential part of cricket teams and they are the ones who provide balance to the team. A team would find it extremely difficult to function without them as they give flexibility to the team and having more than one all-rounder even allows the team to play an extra batsman or an extra bowler. We have seen several world-class all-rounders in the history of the <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/t20/ipl-indian-premier-league/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">IPL </a>including the likes of Shane Watson, Dwayne Bravo, and Andre Russell.
Even in general, all-rounders are considered to be among the biggest matchwinners as they usually have two chances to impact the game in a substantial way. Even in the upcoming IPL, there will be several top-class all-rounders in action and they can prove to be the key once again. Mumbai Indians have won the last 2 titles and they have some of the very best in that role as well. In the same line, here is-

<h3>8. Delhi Capitals</h3>

Delhi Capitals had their most successful campaign last season as they finished 2nd to the Mumbai Indians. As a result, they didn’t have to change their squad a whole lot and were relatively quiet during the auction. Their primary all-rounder will be Marcus Stoinis, who was one of their best players last season.
He scored 352 runs in 17 games at a strike rate of nearly 150 and also picked up 13 wickets as their 6th bowler. Their other all-rounder, Axar Patel is also quite good and chipped in with some important contributions. The left-handed batsman can play big shots during the fag end of the innings and is primarily a container with the ball, and doesn’t really pick up many wickets.
Ravichandran Ashwin is a world-class all-rounder in <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/reports-australia-likely-to-host-afghanistan-for-one-off-test-during-2021-22-summer-in-november/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Test </a>matches, but the same can’t be said in T20s. His batting value is considerably less in this format,  and he doesn’t really add much to the batting lineup. Chris Woakes is a very good cricketer in Test matches and ODIs, but it has been nearly three years since he has played a T20 game. Tom Curran’s batting has improved a lot, but his main asset that is bowling has been quite ineffective and he has been conceding too many runs in recent times.

<h3>7. Punjab Kings</h3>

Their other all-rounders like Deepak Hooda and Chris Jordan aren’t proper all-rounders, and their contributions in their secondary departments are quite “hit or miss.”
They bought more complete all-rounders this time around as the likes of Moises Henriques and Fabian Allen can contribute in both aspects of the game. However, whether they will be first-choice players or not remains to be seen and it will depend on the type of combination they want. However, in any given combination, only one of them will be able to make the team.
Jalaj Saxena has been quite an effective all-rounder in the domestic circuit for a long time, but he is unlikely to have the same kind of impact in the IPL. They have retained Hooda and Jordan, while also buying Shahrukh Khan. Overall, their all-rounder&#8217;s department isn’t quite strong and their 2 best all-rounders are likely to start on the bench.

<h3>6. Sunrisers Hyderabad</h3>

SRH’s all-rounders are pretty much the same as last season given they retained 22 players ahead of the auction. Three of their overseas slots will be occupied by David Warner, Rashid Khan, and one of <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/heres-the-amazing-coincidence-between-wtc-final-dates-and-virat-kohli-and-kane-williamson/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Kane Williamson</a> and Jonny Bairstow, which leaves just one more slot.
That overseas slot is likely to be taken up by one of SRH’s three overseas all-rounders in the form of Mitchell Marsh, Jason Holder, and Mohammad Nabi. Marsh was picked in their first game last season, but he was ruled out due to injury, and his replacement player, Holder made the most of his chances and became a key player for them.
Thus, the West Indian will most likely be given first preference this season. Nabi might come into the team if the pitch is in favour of spin. All three of them are quite effective and do their job, but none of them are out-and-out matchwinners, which means they can only be 6th on the list. Vijay Shankar and Abhishek Sharma are their primary Indian all-rounders and will play the role of 6th and 7th bowlers while also batting in the middle order.

They spent a very big portion of their budget on three overseas all-rounders in the form of Glenn Maxwell, Daniel Christian, and Kyle Jamieson, and these three will be extremely important if they are to win their first-ever title.
While we all know the talent that Glenn Maxwell possesses, he hasn’t been quite good in the IPL, and in fact, that is one of the reasons behind RCB being just 5th over here. If he exhibited better form during previous IPLs, they could have been higher than they are. Kyle Jamieson has been excellent in Test matches, but he is far from being a top T20 all-rounder as was seen during New Zealand’s series against Australia.
Daniel Christian has been performing well in the Big Bash, he has never been able to perform to the same standards in the IPL and it will be interesting to see how he plays. Washington Sundar has shown immense potential with the bat in recent times, and we could see him being utilized as an all-rounder this season rather than just being a bowler. Daniel Sams will most likely just be a backup, and his performance last season wasn’t quite impressive.

<h3>4. Mumbai Indians</h3>

Mumbai Indians have always built a solid team with great options and depth in all areas, and thus it isn’t surprising that they have won five titles. They have some top-class all-rounders in their squad with Hardik Pandya being the best one. He has resumed bowling and looked in good rhythm during the series against England, and we all know how destructive he can be with the bat in hand.
Kieron Pollard is also one of the most dangerous finishers and even fulfilled the role of 6th bowler last season due to Hardik’s injury issues which prevented him from bowling at the time. <a href="https://www.crictracker.com/our-father-passed-away-at-4-oclock-in-the-morning-krunal-pandya-has-been-carrying-his-stuff-from-there-on-hardik-pandya/" target="_blank" rel="noopener">Krunal Pandya</a> had a poor season in 2020, but his form has improved since then and he has even made it to the ODI squad.
James Neesham will be Pollard’s backup and is a very good option to have on the bench given his abilities in all three departments. Marco Jansen and Nathan Coulter-Nile are also pretty good bowling all-rounders.
