The first double-header of the second leg of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 is being played on Saturday. Delhi Capitals and Rajasthan Royals are fighting it out to gain the ascendancy over each other. Despite winning their respective previous games, both sides made changes to their playing XIs. It was a forced change for the Capitals with Marcus Stoinis getting injured as Lalit Yadav replaced him.
However, many were surprised with the Royals not picking Evin Lewis and Chris Morris, two of their crucial overseas players. The Caribbean left-hander had played a quick-fire 36-run knock against Punjab Kings a few days ago. And even though Morris had a forgettable day with the ball going for a lot of runs, he is too good a player to miss out in two consecutive matches.
For the same reason, the fans and experts were also left perplexed when they were left out of the side. However, Kumar Sangakkara, during the first innings, confirmed that both the players were carrying some niggles and hence, were rested and not dropped for the match against DC. “Evin Lewis and Chris Morris had some niggle so resting them in this match,” he said.
David Miller and Shamsi make it to the playing XI
David Miller and Tabraiz Shamsi made it to the playing XI to replace Lewis and Morris. But the latter couldn’t provide a breakthrough. Shamsi, the chinaman bowler, bowled his full quota of four overs and conceded 34 runs. He did well in the first couple of overs but was taken apart for runs by Shreyas Iyer in the third over of his spell to disturb his figures.
On the other hand, the Royals will be hoping for Miller to come good who will have the responsibility to carry the inexperienced middle-order on his shoulders. The left-hander did well in limited opportunities during the first phase with the bat and will be looking to make the opportunity count in this game.
