Right. So, we have got the official date for the commencement of the 14th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The 2021 edition of the IPL will start on 9th April 2021 and will be played till 30th May 2021. Also, it is important to note that there will be no Home and Away concept this year. A total of 6 cities will host the 2021 edition of the league.
Chennai, Bangalore, Mumbai, Kolkata, Delhi and Ahmedabad are the 6 venues that will host the T20 extravaganza this year. The tournament opener will see the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) clashing with the Mumbai Indians (MI) in Chennai. Here, let us focus our attention on the schedule for the Virat Kohli-led RCB side.
The Bangalore side will play their first 3 league matches at Chennai, then play a couple of matches at Mumbai, play 4 matches at Ahmedabad, and finally finish the remainder of their league stage matches at Kolkata. RCB will start their campaign on the opening day of the tournament with the match against the defending champions Mumbai Indians and then will play the last match against CSK on May 23.
Now, even though the RCB side put up a decent performance last year by finishing at the 4th place, a maiden IPL title continues to elude the franchise. The Virat Kohli-led side was beaten in the Eliminator stage by a spirited Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) side in the UAE last year.
A decent IPL 2021 auction for RCB
In the 2021 IPL auction, the RCB splashed a lot of money to procure the resources that they wanted. They spent a colossal amount of INR 15 Crores and bought Kiwi pacer Kyle Jamieson. Also, INR 14.25 Crores was spent by RCB to pouch Australian cricketer Glenn Maxwell. Apart from these two massive buys, RCB also bought the likes of Dan Christian, Mohammed Azharuddeen, KS Bharat, Suyash Prabhudessai, Sachin Baby and Rajat Patidar.
Even though they have finished as the runners-up on as many as 3 occasions, RCB have somehow not been able to win the IPL trophy even once. And, in the 2021 edition of the league, the Bangalore franchise will be looking to win the IPL trophy for the first time and prove their critics wrong.
