IPL 2021: Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik show hilarious dramatics after the latter’s stumping appeal
Dhawan scored 46 off 47 balls against the Knight Riders before Pat Cummins got rid of him.
Shikhar Dhawan has had a stupendous run thus far for the Delhi Capitals (DC) in the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). The southpaw is currently the Orange Cap holder as he has notched 311 runs from seven games at an average and strike rate of 44.42 and 131.77 respectively. He also has two fifties along with a top score of 92 against the Punjab Kings (PBKS).
On Thursday, April 29, the southpaw scored 46 off 47 balls against the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. In the meantime, he and Dinesh Karthik were involved in a moment of theatrics. In the 12th over of DC’s run-chase, Karthik made a loud stumping appeal to get rid of Dhawan. Varun Chakravarthy bowled a wide after which the appeal was made.
Replays showed that Dhawan never lifted his foot off the ground. During the appeal, Karthik was seen pointing fingers at the southpaw. In reply, Dhawan threw an amusing reaction. The video of the same has garnered a lot of popularity on social media.

I made a conscious effort to bring up my strike rate: Shikhar Dhawan
The Capitals went to second on the points table after Prithvi Shaw bagged the Player of the Match award with his 41-ball 82. Dhawan said that Shaw’s attacking style of play allowed him to settle down and rotate the strike. He also talked about the ‘conscious efforts’ he put in to improve his strike rate over the years.
“Prithvi was playing amazing, was lovely to watch it from the other end. We were getting so many runs; I didn’t think of taking too many risks and played according to the game situation. I don’t have to compare, I just have to play my role according to the situation and that’s what I did,” Dhawan said.
“I made a conscious effort to bring up my strike rate because I knew that this game needed that and me as an opener had to take those risks. At the same time, smart enough to know when to take risks and when not to.
“Like today, there was no need for me to take any risk; Prithvi was playing totally on a different level. It was lovely to watch him as well. I enjoy taking smart risks and trying something new as well,” he added.
