IPL 2021: Shimron Hetmyer spills beans on sporting jersey number 189

Delhi Capitals (DC) team keeps getting better with each performance in the 14^th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). With their latest win over Rajasthan Royals (RR), the team has now surpassed Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the points table and are in the number one position with 16 points.

Shreyas Iyer and Shimron Hetmyer were instrumental in DC winning the match by 33 runs. While the Indian batter contributed with a handy 43 runs, the West Indian played a little cameo scoring 28 runs off just 16 balls.

After the match, Iyer caught up with Hetmyer for a light-hearted conversation and asked him what is the reason behind having the number 189 jersey on his back. The southpaw answered the question by saying that it was the highest score he ever scored and that is why he wears it on his back while playing for West Indies and other franchise leagues around the world.

“Well, that’s actually my highest score. It wasn’t in Tests. If it was in Tests, I would probably be crying now (jokingly). It was my highest score in cricket back home. I can’t remember what game it was, to be honest. I guess that was just one of those days. I just went out, swiped and I got to 189 and then I got out,” the 24-year-old recalled in a video posted on IPLT20.COM.

Hetmyer made a lot of head turn when he sported blue hair during the resumption of the UAE leg of the IPL. It also got the commentators, and fans talking about the offbeat color he sported on his hair. Shreyas Iyer also asked the reason for his fascination in coloring his hair with bold colors.

“I love bling, that’s one. And, I love looking after my hair as well. It is something that I really like doing and I put some chemicals in it to keep it nice and soft.”

So far Hetmyer has been used as a finisher by the DC team and he has not disappointed the team so far. The southpaw has scored 112 in eight games at a mind-boggling strike rate of 196.49. Meanwhile, Iyer has been in fantastic form scoring 43 and 47 runs for DC after returning in the UAE leg of the IPL.
