The 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) is presently taking place with the matches, currently, being hosted in Chennai and Mumbai. However, amidst the rigours of the game, some cricketers are also observing fast in the holy month of Ramadan, the ninth month of the Muslim calendar. In the meantime, Kane Williamson was also learned to be keeping fast.
Kane, who’s currently with the Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), accompanied his teammates Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Mohammad Nabi, and Khaleel Ahmed. David Warner, the Sunrisers’ skipper, was also a part of the fasting. Ramadan, also known as the month of fasting, starts and ends with the appearance of the crescent moon.

Kane Williamson yet to take part in IPL 2021
Williamson is yet to play a single game in the ongoing edition of the IPL. After SRH’s 13-run loss to the Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Chepauk, Warner said that the New Zealand captain is making a speedy recovery from his injury that he suffered before the series against Bangladesh.
“We have to speak to the physios, he’s (Williamson) coming along nicely and plays a big role in our squad,” Warner was quoted as saying in the post-match press conference.
After the match against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) where SRH lost by six runs, Trevor Bayliss, their head coach, also updated on Kane’s fitness. “We had two days of practice before the RCB game, and Kane Williamson practiced in one of the days. So, he’s coming along,” Bayliss had said.
Previously, Bayliss had also said that Williamson needed some ‘extra time’ to get match fit. He even mentioned that the Tauranga-born would have been picked ahead of Jonny Bairstow in the game against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) had he been fit.
“We just felt that Kane needed a little bit of extra time to get match fit and a little bit more time in the nets. He would have played in place of Jonny Bairstow obviously if that had occurred. But we aren’t too perturbed about that, Jonny has been in form recently in white-ball cricket here in India. Kane will obviously come into calculations as the tournament unfolds,” Bayliss said.
