Suresh Raina, on Saturday (April 10), hit the ground running as he scored a fine fifty on his comeback in the ongoing game between Chennai Super Kings and Delhi Capitals at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. The ongoing game was Raina’s first in the IPL since the final of the 2019 edition. During this period, he had played only five competitive games.
But the lack of match practice did not stop him from marking his return to action with a fine fifty. The southpaw scored 54 off 36 deliveries on his comeback. He reached his fifty with a maximum off Marcus Stoinis. After walking in to bat at No.4, Raina started cautiously and was batting on 16 off 16 balls when he decided to break the shackles.
The former India batsman got into his groove by hitting veteran leg-spinner Amit Mishra for two sixes in an over and did not look back after getting that impetus. His innings was studded with 3 fours and 4 sixes. Raina’s promising knock came to an end on the first ball of the 16th over after a mix-up with Ravindra Jadeja led to his run-out.
Jadeja tucked a delivery from Avesh Khan towards deep backward square leg and decided to take a double. He quickly completed the single before turning back for the second. Raina, on the other end, had also completed his first run and turned back quickly for a single. But as Jadeja turned back for the second, Avesh came in his way and the CSK star decided against completing the run.
And before Raina could realise what was going on, it was too late for him to turn back and get inside the crease. In the meantime, Rishabh Pant received the throw at the striker’s end and did the rest with utmost ease.

For Delhi Capitals, Chris Woakes and Avesh picked up two wickets each.
