IPL 2021: Top 5 expensive bowlers and their cost per ball in the season

The fourteenth season of the Indian Premier League is likely to get underway from mid-April this year. All 8 teams have bought certain players according to their need in the mini-auction held in February. It was seen that a lot of money was spent on bowlers and particularly pacers in the auction. In fact, among the top 6 most expensive players in mini-auction, four were fast bowlers. These bowlers will now be having a lot of responsibility on their shoulders. They are expected to be regular starters in all the fourteen league matches for their respective franchise. This makes their role even more important in the team’s campaign. In this article, we are going to analyze the data on the price each team will be paying for every ball these bowlers will be delivering. This is considering that they will ball four overs each in the fourteen matches they will be part of. In the past, it has been seen that some costly players are not able to meet the expectations and often spend most of their time on the bench after failing in the initial few matches. 5. Riley Meredith: 2.38 Lakh/ball Australian young pacer Riley Meredith was bought by Punjab Kings for a price of Rs. 8 crores. He was very impressive in the recently concluded BBL season. Many former cricketers have hailed the young bowler for his amazing skills. In this season, every ball of Meredith is going to cost 2.38 Lakh to the Punjab franchise. He will be hoping that his performance is worth his price. It will be interesting to see how Punjab picks their four overseas players. Last season, they had to struggle a lot in the pace bowling department, and in the death overs to be particular. This year, they would be banking on a young pacer like Meredith to solve their long-term woes. 4. Krishnappa Gowtham: 2.75 Lakh/ball Indian spin-bowling all-rounder Krishnappa Gowtham was sold to Chennai Super Kings for a big price of 9.25 cr INR. It is almost certain that Gowtham will feature in all 14 games for CSK this season. CSK has picked Gowtham to strengthen their lower-order batting, and also to add an off-spinning option in the lineup. The Chepauk stadium has proved to be beneficial for spinners in the past, and Gowtham too would be riding his luck here. Gowtham will cost 2.75 Lakh per ball in IPL 2021 for Chennai Super Kings. He will be a crucial bowler for Chennai in the middle overs. However, MS Dhoni has occasionally used his spinners in Power Plays too, and this can happen this year as well. 3. Jhye Richardson: 4.16 Lakh/ball Punjab Kings had the largest purse ahead of the mini-auction this year, and they spent this money to get a few quality pacers. One of them was Australian pacer Jhye Richardson, who was the highest wicket-keeper in the Big Bash League this season. Richardson will cost 4.16 Lakh per ball he is going to deliver in the IPL 2021. He will be pairing with Mohammed Shami and Riley Meredith in the pace bowling attack for Punjab. Richardson can be used in death overs as well as power play this season. Though Richardson has not been a regular starter for Australia in the T20I playing XI, Punjab has shown a lot of faith in buying him at such a big price. He will be hoping to perform up to these expectations and help Punjab succeed this year. 2. Kyle Jamieson 4.46 Lakh/ball Kyle Jamieson was the third most expensive player of this IPL mini-auction. He has been bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a massive price of 15 crore INR. Jamieson does not have much experience in the T20Is which makes his sold price look more unbelievable. Jamieson’s every ball will cost 4.46 Lakh to the Bangalore franchise this year. He is going to be very crucial for the team, particularly in the death overs, an area where Bangalore has struggled over the years. Jamieson has played a total of 40 T20s till now, in which he has taken 55 wickets at an economy rate of 8.20. He has also been useful with the bat scoring at an impressive strike rate of 138.68 in T20 cricket. 1. Chris Morris – 4.83 Lakh/ball Chris Morris became the most expensive player in the history of IPL auction when he was bought by Rajasthan Royals for a humongous price of 16.25 crore. He was with the RCB team last year but was released even after a fine performance with the ball. Every ball of Morris will cost 4.83 Lakh to Rajasthan this season. He will be pairing up with Jofra Archer, which makes for a lethal pace attack. Both these bowlers will be performing the hard job of bowling at the death. In the IPL 2020, Morris took 11 wickets with a superb economy of 6.63. He was the third most economical pacer last season. Morris can be handy with the bat as well and can hit big shots if needed in the death overs.
