Glenn Maxwell has lit up the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season with his batting. He was bought by the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) for a whopping amount in the auction despite him not performing to the expectations for the Punjab Kings in IPL 2020. Maxwell had failed to score even a single six last year and many had criticised him for his performance.
Former Indian cricketer Virender Sehwag was one of them taking constant potshots as Glenn Maxwell for his poor show constantly since the 2014 season. Rather he had also felt that the franchises shouldn’t go for him in the auction ahead of the IPL 2021. But contrary to his expectations, there was a bidding war to secure his services and finally, RCB managed to grab him.
And unlike the last few seasons, the Aussie all-rounder has proved his mettle much to the delight of the franchise. Glenn Maxwell now holds the Orange Cap with 176 runs to his name in three matches and boasts of a stunning strike-rate of close to 150.
No wonder Virender Sehwag is immensely impressed with him as the swashbuckling opener during his playing days praised the 32-year-old for his performances. He was also happy to see Maxwell living up to his potential and also shared a hilarious meme teasing other franchises. “Good to see Maxwell finally play to his potential in this IPL,” Sehwag’s tweet read.

Glenn Maxwell helps RCB recover from 9/2
Not that Glenn Maxwell has come out to bat when his team is in a good position. In the game against Kolkata Knight Riders, he came out to bat when RCB had lost Virat Kohli and Rajat Patidar in the first couple of overs itself. This is when the all-rounder took control of the innings and brought his team back into the game. In no time, RCB were bossing the game and the impact was Maxwell’s counterpunch.
This laid a perfect platform for AB de Villiers who came out and piled on the agony on the opposition. Maxwell slammed 78 while the former South African cricketer remained unbeaten on 76 as RCB posted 204 runs on the board.
