IPL 2021: Why does CSK's new jersey have three stars above the team logo?
CSK have changed their jersey look for the first time since 2008.
Chennai Super Kings have redesigned their jersey for the first time since the inaugural Indian Premier League (IPL) season. Various features of new jersey have hogged the limelight and one of them is their tribute to India’s Armed Forces. The camouflage on the shoulders is bordered with gold bands while the jersey is also made from recycled plastic which is good for the environment.
The fans are loving the look of the new CSK outfit but one more aspect of the jersey has not got the attention it deserves the most. Above the much-loved CSK logo on the jersey, one can see three stars shining and not many are aware of its significance.
The three stars denote three IPL titles the MS Dhoni-led side won in 2010, 2011, and 2018. CSK is the first-ever team in the T20 extravaganza to depict the number of titles won on the jersey. The team will be hoping to repeat their heroics in the upcoming IPL season and add a fourth IPL trophy to the cabinet. They are also the second most successful team in the history of the cash-rich league with Mumbai Indians (5 titles) being at the top.
A full-strength CSK can go a long way in IPL 2021
Chennai Super Kings endured their worst ever IPL season in 2020 when they failed to make it to the playoffs for the first time. They finished at seventh place in the points table with only six wins from 14 matches. The season was played in the UAE due to outbreak of COVID in India and they also missed their talisman Suresh Raina who pulled out of the tournament at the last moment for personal reasons.
However, the Men in Yellow have their full-strength side this time around even as Raina is also back. They also added all-rounders in Krishnappa Gowtham and Moeen Ali to their squad in the IPL 2021 auction. Shane Watson retired after last edition but the team seems fully equipped to replace him at the top of the order.
