IPL 2022: 3 players CSK should have chased in mega auction
CSK are struggling big time in IPL 2022.
The defending champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) were struggling to register their first win in the 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). After losing four consecutive matches, the four-time champions won for the first time in IPL 2022 on April 12 at Dr. DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai, defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) by 23 runs.
Being the second most successful franchise in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL), Chennai Super Kings have had their worst patch of run in the ongoing season of the cash-rich tournament. The decisions taken by the management in the IPL mega auction 2022 and the failure of experienced players have paved the way to disappointing performances.
Before the mega-auction, CSK had retained the likes of Ravindra Jadeja, MS Dhoni, Ruturaj Gaikwad, and Moeen Ali. However, Shardul Thakur, Faf du Plessis, and Josh Hazlewood were not re-signed by the franchise. Let’s look at the three players which CSK should have bought even by spending more in the mega auction –
3 players on which CSK should have spent more in IPL mega auction
1. Faf du Plessis
The Yellow Army did bid for Du Plessis till a certain point in the IPL mega auction 2022 before Royal Challengers Bangalore opened their account and signed the South African star for INR 7 crore. Former head coach Ravi Shastri stated that Chennai Super Kings should not have allowed him to leave the squad since he could have succeeded MS Dhoni as CSK skipper ahead of IPL 2022.
Last year, the 37- year-old enjoyed a fantastic season with Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Working his way in the opening duties with Ruturaj Gaikwad, Du Plessis accumulated 633 runs in 16 innings, which was one of the key reasons for CSK’s fourth IPL triumph. In the finals against KKR, he scored 86 runs off 59 balls which made him earn the Player of the Match award.
Du Plessis made his IPL debut in 2012 and has played more than 100 IPL games. He enjoyed performing under MS Dhoni’s leadership and was associated with CSK for several seasons. CSK made numerous proposals for his services in an attempt to keep him in the squad but they withdrew when his price surpassed the INR 3.2 crore threshold.
