IPL 2022: 3 Teams that might target Ravichandran Ashwin in mega auction
Ravi Ashwin has been released by DC ahead of IPL mega auction.
Ravichandran Ashwin is one of the craftiest spinners in the IPL and world cricket. Ashwin started his IPL career with four-time winners Chennai Super Kings in 2009. He only played two games in that season. Next year, he got 12 games to display his talent. He kept playing for the team till 2015 before the franchise was suspended for two seasons on the count of spot-fixing and betting.
He then played for now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiants in 2016 and then went on to lead the Punjab Kings in seasons 2018 and 2019. Ahead of the IPL 2020, he was traded by Delhi Capitals and he played till last year. He got released by DC ahead of IPL mega auction and would find a new franchise for himself in IPL 2022. The 35-year-old has played 167 games and has 145 scalps to his name.
Three teams that will target Ravichandran Ashwin in IPL mega auction
1. Gujarat Titans
The new entrant Ahmedabad will target India’s premium spinner. The CVC Capitals-owned team has signed Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubhman Gill. Ashwin can be a great bowling partner to Khan, who has played in the IPL for Sunrisers Hyderabad before.
The leggie has played 76 games and has 93 scalps to his name. He was famous for not just a strike bowler but a containment bowler. This makes Ashwin Khan pair a very formidable pair as both of them can do the same thing. They will have a lot of money to spend on acquiring Ashwin in the mega auction
2. Lucknow Super Giants
The Sanjiv Goenka-owned team can also target the Test-veteran in the team. They have acquired the services of Ravi Bishnoi, who has played 23 games and picked 24 wickets. Just like Rashid Khan, he also emerged as the strike bowler for the team.
Both the leggies pick most of their wicket with the googlies and can play the containment roles. Someone like Ravichandran Ashwin can be the best bowling partner for Bishnoi. As they have signed three players like Ahmedabad, they can give a stiff competition to Super Giants during the auction.
3. Mumbai Indians
Spin bowling has been an issue for the five-time winners. Though fans might suggest that spinners like Harbhajan Singh, Rahul Chahar, Jayant Yadav, etc have played for the team, a fine spinner is their need of the hour.
With having let go of Rahul Chahar and Piyush Chawla, the team might look to acquire the services of the veteran spinner. Even he would love to play under the leadership of Rohit Sharma, who is known to be a calm and cool skipper
