IPL 2022: 3 Teams that might target Shahrukh Khan

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL) has started to heat up with the mega auction to be convened on February 12 & 13. The franchises would be keen to build their squad with strong and consistent performers as they will represent the team in the long run. One of the most important roles in the T20 format is of a finisher and there are only a few well-known commodities currently.

One such candidate is Tamil Nadu’s, Shahrukh Khan. He is one of the finest youngsters in the contention right now. The 26-year-old has been extremely impressive in the domestic arena and was bought by Punjab Kings in 2021 for a whopping INR 5.25 crores. In 11 matches, he scored 153 runs at a strike rate of 134.21.

Shahrukh has also done well in the recently held Syed Mushtaq Ali and Vijay Hazare trophies. But, the Punjab Kings franchise did not retain this young gun and will participate in the IPL 2022 mega auction with a base price of INR 40 Lakhs. 1. Chennai Super Kings

The services of MS Dhoni as a batter in the Chennai Super Kings team have almost come to the climax and the franchise will look forward to building a side with a youngster who can play a finisher role. This team has flourished in many matches because of the innings played by the finishers.

As always, Dhoni would love to groom the youngsters and his guidance will be of great use to this future prospect of India. Shahrukh as a hard-hitter would be apt in the Super Kings’ line-up and he also bowls some handy off-breaks and this all-round capability would attract the captain cool.

Moreover, Shahrukh hails from Chennai and would be well suited for the conditions. Even if the matches are not to be held at Chepauk this year, he could be picked in the squad for the future. Shahrukh will be much happier if he gets selected by his hometown franchise.

2. Rajasthan Royals

The Rajasthan Royals team was never as successful as the first season when they lifted their only trophy. After 2008 season, the team has qualified only in three of the 12 occurrences. The franchise came back in 2018 after a two-year ban and in 2021, Sanju Samson was named as their permanent skipper.

Now, the management has retained Sanju Samson, Jos Buttler, and the young Yashasvi Jaiswal for the upcoming seasons. The team now has strong top-order batters and they have to focus on the remaining departments.

The Royals have always lacked to own a hard-hitting middle-order batter and will look forward to strengthening those facets in this upcoming mega auction. The Rajasthan franchise will not get a better Indian option to do this role flawlessly and could target and hook him into the team.

3. Royal Challengers Bangalore

It was a big blow for the Royal Challengers Bangalore franchise and for the fans as their star-player AB de Villiers announced his retirement from all forms of cricket. He is RCB’s second-highest run-getter and his contributions were most valuable for the side.

The team’s middle-order strength has always been questionable and after Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell, the team needs a player who could fit in the role which ABD was playing. They wanted to secure Shahrukh Khan’s services in 2020 when they engaged in a bidding war against the Punjab Kings but later gave up after the bid crossed five crores.

The franchise has always loved to have match winners and hard-hitting explosive batters (like Chris Gayle, and AB De Villiers) to carry the innings forward. Hence, Shahrukh Khan could definitely expect a chance to represent the RCB team.
