Sunrisers Hyderabad entirely altered their tactics ahead of the mega auction 2022 after a disastrous IPL 2021 season. The Hyderabad franchise was only able to retain it’s captain, Kane Williamson, and two uncapped players, Abdul Samad and Umran Malik. Prior to the auctions, the franchise had to let go of stalwarts like David Warner, Rashid Khan, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar.

During the IPL 2021, David Warner had a fall out with the franchise’s management, which resulted in his removal from both captaincy and the playing XI. Rashid Khan reportedly did not want to be the second retention behind Williamson, prompting SRH to cut ties with him. The franchise appointed a new star-studded management with Tom Moody being the head coach and Simon Katich being the assistant coach.

Brian Lara, the legendary batter, will serve as the strategic advisor and batting coach. Dale Steyn and Muttiah Muralitharan will take the roles of fast and spin bowling coaches. Hemang Badani will take over the duties of fielding coach. Fast bowlers are crucial to the success of any team.

All previous successful franchises have placed a high value on their pace battery, which is responsible for the most demanding assignment, namely bowling at the death. The franchise must be eager for Dale Steyn’s guidance ahead of the auctions, given his appointment as bowling coach.

In the article, we take a look at five bowlers SRH might target in the IPL 2022 mega auction:

1. Trent Boult

The left-arm seamer’s progress during his time in Mumbai has been in the news for quite some time. Along with Bumrah, Boult was the fulcrum of the Mumbai Indians’ bowling attack. He grabbed 38 wickets for the Mumbai franchise over the course of two years. Along with bowling efficiently in the powerplay, his death bowling has improved tremendously.

In the year 2016, Boult was a member of SRH. However, he wasn’t given much chances to show off his abilities in the playing XI. Given the slowness of the Hyderabad pitch, it would be advantageous for Boult’s cutters as he would benefit from the surface’s character.

His economy rate of 7.93 was also impressive, displaying his ability to bowl at any time during the game. For SRH, Boult has the potential to be an all-phase bowler who can pick up wickets at will. Boult offers left-arm fast bowling with good control and accuracy.

He is frequently viewed as a powerplay specialist, but when there is some swing on offer, he becomes highly lethal. As a death bowler, he has made great progress in recent years. He can throw yorkers and slower ones on command, which will be highly useful to the IPL team.
