IPL 2022: 5 Indian Players who have failed to justify their hefty price tag
A couple of Indian cricketers have failed to live up to the expectation so far in IPL 2022.
1. Shardul Thakur (INR 10.75 cr)
A proven match-winner and a pivotal part of India’s limited overs setup, Shardul Thakur has failed to hit the ground running in the Delhi Capitals (DC) jersey in IPL 2022. Not many questioned his price tag, as his recent performances for India, with both bat and ball, had been prolific. He also played an integral role in Chennai Super Kings’ title-winning campaign last season.
However, he hasn’t quite made the same impact with either in the four games he has played so far this season. He has picked up just three wickets in four matches with an economy rate of over 10. His returns with the bat have been decent given his limited opportunities (53 runs at a strike rate of almost 200), but Delhi know he is capable of more.
Being a critical part of the Delhi setup, the franchise will want the cricketer from Mumbai to contribute more as a bowler. Incidentally, Rishabh Pant and Co. have struggled with their bowling so far in the tournament. Delhi will hope their senior bowlers, including Shardul, hit the strides as they look to continue the winning momentum.
