3. Ambati Rayudu – INR 2 Cr
Jumping from one heavyweight to another in 2018, Ambati Rayudu was the silver lining in CSK’s famous comeback season. Stabilising the middle order with his expertise, he has often swung the game to his side’s favour. While his chances of making it to the national squad are getting slimmer each year, his contributions in the domestic arena are still very relevant.
Amassing 3916 runs in 12 editions for Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, he was the rock for the Men in Yellow in 2018 leading them to their 3rd title. In Rayudu, a team gets itself a batsman who can bat anywhere till No.7. From opening the innings and scoring a century to coming at No.6 and striking at 139.58, the Andhra batter versatility is something to admire.
While Rayudu played an effective and instrumental role in leading the team back as champions last season, his age is something that might come under than scanner ahead of the mega auction. At the age of 36, he has placed himself at the highest base price bracket of 2 crore. Ambati Rayudu probably has a couple of cricketing years left in him. In an auction where teams are looking to build their squads for the future, a 2 Cr base price looks to be an overpriced value for him. Unfortunately, in his case, age is not just a number.
