4. Bhuvneshwar Kumar – INR 2 Cr
The Sultan of Swing. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, for almost his entire career in the IPL, has been his side’s first choice bowler. Debuting for RCB and later playing for the PWI and the SRH, he has successfully bagged the purple cap twice in a row (2016 & 2017). The sun was shining brightly until he fell victim to injuries leading to inconsistent appearances for the Indian team.
His consistency in the IPL reflects directly through his numbers and stats. Standing 8th in the list of most wickets taken in the tournament’s history, Bhuvneshwar is a valuable bowler in all three phases of the bowling innings. Having nine maidens to his name, just two dot balls away from becoming the holder of the most dot balls bowled (1267), and a tally of 142 wickets in the bag at 7.3 economy makes him the perfect bowler for any team.
While all this is one side of the coin, his performances in recent times do not do justice to the price tag he carries at 2 crores, ahead of the auction. He has not been able to deliver the quality performances, he is known for. A glimmer of hope for Bhuvneshwar is that he carries with him a great deal of experience that could help shape the next generation of bowlers. He is nonetheless, young at 31 and will surely be picked in the auction, however, a base price of 2 crores is too high, taking his recent form into consideration.
