The Indian Premier league’s fifteenth edition is nearing and the auction for the upcoming season is to be held as a mega affair in February. The IPL will play ten teams this year and the two new teams which were added are CVC Capital’s Ahmedabad franchise and the RPS group-owned Lucknow team.

The existing eight teams have already announced their retained players and each team has retained a maximum of four players. The remaining players were available for the two new teams to pick ahead of the auction and they have announced their list of players now. Some anticipated good players were not retained by any of the ten teams and hence would participate in the auction. Here is the list of

5 players new teams missed out to pick ahead of IPL mega auction

1. David Warner

The player who was expected by the teams to get purloined ahead of the auction was David Warner. He first debuted in the IPL for Delhi Daredevils in 2009 and was transferred to Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2014. Warner was then appointed as the captain of the team and has been playing for SRH since then.

His performance as a batter and as a skipper has been phenomenal. He led the team from the front in 2016 and made them lift their maiden trophy. This Australian opener is the highest overseas run-scorer and fifth highest in the tournament. His captaincy record is also better than the other overseas captains.

The southpaw has won the orange cap twice and is the most by any player. But, unfortunately, his rapport with the franchise got bad and was dropped from the captaincy in 2021 and eventually from the team. Warner was expected to get picked by any of the two fresh teams as a skipper, but he has been neglected and will face the hammer for the first time after 2014.

2. Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer, the amazing captain material who represented Delhi Capitals since his debut, will now play for another team in the IPL. He was bought by Delhi Daredevils in 2015 for a whopping amount of 2.6 crores and he was the costliest uncapped player to represent an IPL team that year.

This young batter proved his price tag by scoring runs consistently and also won the Emerging player of the year 2015. In 2018, he was named as the captain of the side and was the fourth youngest captain to lead an IPL team. He led the team to the playoffs in 2019 and to their maiden final in 2020.

Shreyas was then injured and was ruled out of the first phase of IPL and when he continued in the second half, he was not given the captaincy. He then opted out of the team and was available for the teams to get picked. But, he has not been picked by either of the two teams and will probably be sold for a huge price in the auction.

3. Yuzvendra Chahal

The Indian leggie Yuzvendra Chahal debuted for Mumbai Indians in the year 2011. He was then signed by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2014 and has been their key-bowler since then. His bowling in the Chinnaswamy stadium was very effective.

Chahal has played a total of 114 IPL matches and has taken 139 wickets at an economy of 7.59. He was seemed to be a little off-track in recent times and was not as effective as in Bengaluru. Hence, he was not retained by RCB for the future.

But still, Chahal is an experienced campaigner and has made world-class batters struggle against him. Though he was expected to get retained by RCB or at least by any of the two new teams, he has been not considered and hence will appear in the auction.

4. Ishan Kishan

Ishan Kishan who made his IPL debut in the year 2016 for Gujarat Lions, lastly played for Mumbai Indians. He is a young prospect for the future as he has performed extremely well in the last few years. He is eulogized for his explosive batting skills.

This 23-year-old youngster has played 61 IPL matches and has hit 1452 runs at a strike rate of 145.76. He was in terrific form in the year 2020 and scored 516 runs in 14 matches at an average of 57.33. His form earned him a call to the national side and has now played a few matches for India.

Ishan was sacrificed by the star-studded Mumbai line up and Suryakumar Yadav was retained ahead of him. He was then much anticipated to get preferred by the two new teams as he brings in his young energetic batting skills and also will fill the role of a wicketkeeper. Despite his attributes, he has been missed by the franchises and will be under the hammer this year.

5. Shikhar Dhawan

Shikhar Dhawan is undeniably one of the best openers in the Indian Premier League. He brings in a lot of charisma into the team along with his experienced batting techniques. He has played for a variety of teams such as Delhi Daredevils, Mumbai Indians, Deccan Chargers, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and ultimately for Delhi Capitals.

Gabbar is the second-highest run-scorer in the IPL with 5784 runs in 192 matches. He is surely an underrated cricketer in this league. His form since he got transferred to Delhi Capitals in 2019 has been remarkable as he scored above 500 runs in each season.

The 36-year-old player was at peak of his career in 2020 when he scored back-to-back hundreds and ended the season as the second-highest run-getter. Dhawan gives a steady start to the team upfront. Despite averaging 39.34, he was not retained by Delhi Capitals. He is also missed by the two new teams and will feature in the mega auction this year.
