IPL 2022: 5 Players who can make it to their national side with their IPL Performances
A handful of players are in contention to earn a call up to their national side.
The league stage of IPL 2022 is just coming to a close and we have been treated to seven weeks of high-quality cricket up till now. Only one franchise, Gujarat Titans have sealed qualification into the playoffs, as the battle continues for the remaining three spots. IPL as a platform gives an opportunity to out-of-favor players to get back among the reckoning for selection in the national team.
The 15th edition of IPL has been no different, as several players have made a strong claim for their call back to their respective sides. IPL is a grueling tournament, with fixtures coming thick and fast. As such, the fitness of the players is tested throughout the season. In this article, we look at the five players who can make it to their national side with their IPL performances.
1. Bhanuka Rajapaksa
Bhanuka Rajapaksa was some kind of revelation during the T20I World Cup last year. Coming into bat at number three for Sri Lanka, the left-handed batter played a few blistering knocks, which grabbed the attention of the fans and experts alike. However, fitness was a major concern for the southpaw, as he was often sluggish on the field. For this reason, he was dropped from the three-match T20I series against India, a couple of months ago.
Bhanuka Rajapaksa has been a consistent performer for Punjab Kings in IPL 2022. The southpaw has accumulated 202 runs in eight innings at an average of 25.25, and a strike rate of 162.90. He was left out of the squad for a couple of games with the return of Jonny Bairstow, which can be termed as a harsh call.
However, ever since he was drafted back into the starting 11, the Punjab Kings batter has rarely disappointed. The Sri Lankan selection committee will certainly consider a call-up for Bhanuka Rajapaksa as the T20I World Cup is scheduled to take place in just about five months.
