IPL 2022: 5 Steal deals in the mega auction

The recently concluded IPL 2022 mega auction was very tense. 204 cricket players went under the hammer and got sold to different franchises. This year’s auction saw two brand new franchises taking part for the first time. The new franchises looked really excited and some of their deals were spot on. All of the teams have assembled a solid squad for the coming IPL season. The first session of the auction saw 10 marquee players who were mostly in demand by the franchises. The Kolkata Knight Riders successfully bought the young Indian superstar Shreyas Iyer for 12.25 CR. The Mumbai lad will lead the franchise for the upcoming season. The most expensive buy of the auction was Ishan Kishan as Mumbai Indians had no second thought while bidding for him. The Royal Challengers Bangalore have shown faith in Faf du Plessis. A special relief was there on the RCB management teams’ faces when they got him. The relief indicated that the South African veteran can lead the franchise in the coming fixtures. Though there were some high-priced deals, there were a few low-priced deals too. Here we take a look at- 5 steals from the IPL mega auction 1. Alex Hales -1.5 CR- Kolkata Knight Riders Alex Hales. Nevertheless, he eventually got backed by the KKR franchise and they sealed an amazing deal. The franchise bought Alex Hales for 1.5 Crore. The batter has a lot of experience playing T20 cricket. He participates in various T20 leagues around the world and is well known for his high scoring rate. Alex Hales is expected to partner Venkatesh Iyer to open the innings for the KKR team in the coming edition of the tournament. He was the first English batter to score a hundred in T20Is. His numbers in the 20-over format are brilliant. Hales has played 60 T20Is for England and has scored 1644 runs at an average of 31.02. KKR will feel fortunate to have him as their part. 2. Daryll Mitchell has made a name for himself at the highest level of the sport but he is yet to prove his worth in IPL. Mitchell has got his first IPL contract. He will be a part of the upcoming edition of the toughest cricket tournament of the world wearing the pink jersey of the Rajasthan Royals. The 30-year old is a reliable lower-middle order batter and a handy bowler. Getting a player like him for the base price of 75 lakhs is very difficult. The Rajasthan Royals had probably the best all-rounder in the world of cricket out of the current lot for a few seasons. Replacing him won’t be easy but a player like Daryl Mitchell can do a fine job for them. 3. Devon Conway -1 Crore – Chennai Super Kings New Zealand’s Devon Conway. That double ton on Test debut at Lord’s is a dream knock for every batter and he got it in style. Conway has a natural ability to play high-percentage shots. Conway has become an integral part of the New Zealand national team in a very short span of time. The opening-batter has a huge amount of experience playing domestic cricket in South Africa and New Zealand. Every cricket team needs some experienced guys to help in creating a good team environment. The southpaw can also keep the wickets. He is a dependable gloveman and can keep the wickets if their regular keeper gets out of contention. Getting a player like him for one Crore is a blessing. 4. David Warner – 6.25 Crore- Delhi Capitals David Warner. The Delhi-based franchise got the Australian southpaw for just 6.25 Crore and nobody had expected. The batter was expected to spark the bidding wars. Delhi Capitals will have a lot of expectations with the champion. Warner is an IPL winning captain and was an integral member of the Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise for a long time. Somehow, the opening-batter has returned to the franchise he started his IPL journey with. Warner is a three-time orange cap winner in IPL which is the most by any batter. David has played 150 IPL games and has 5449 runs to his name at a spectacular average of 41.6. 5. Rassie van der Dussen -1 Crore- Rajasthan Royals Rassie van der Dussen. Although Rassie went unsold in the initial round of the auction, he attracted Rajasthan Royals to bid for him in the final session of the event. He was bought by the Royals for his base price of 1 crore. He is an amazing addition to the franchise due to his current form. The 33-year old has a spectacular T20I record. He has scored 933 runs in 34 games at an average of 38.87. He has played a good amount of 20-over cricket. In overall T20s, he has 4129 runs to his name in 140 games. He might prove to be a bargain for the franchise with the caliber and character he brings to the table. Van der Dussen was fabulous in recent India’s tour of South Africa.
