IPL 2022: Ahmedabad franchise explains significance of name 'Gujarat Titans'

Mega auction is all set to take place on 12th and 13th February.

The 15th edition of the Indian Premier League is set to become bigger, following the inception of two new franchises into the mix- Lucknow Giants and Gujarat Titans. The Gujarat-based franchise revealed their name ” Gujarat Titans” and are set to become the second franchise to represent the state in the competition after Gujarat Lions who featured in the IPL in 2016 and 2017. Suresh Raina was the skipper and he led them to the playoffs in their debut season itself.

The Ahmedabad franchise’s owner Siddharth Patel of CVC Capital Partners revealed the official name of the Hardik Pandya-led unit. The Ahmedabad franchise is set to be named Gujarat Titans. Soon after their social media debut across various social media platforms like Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook, the Gujarat Titans explained the meaning and the significance of their name through a post on social media. The team’s post read:

“We’ll take on big challenges and fight against odds, and this spirit makes us the ‘Titans’,” wrote the Ahmedabad-based franchise”.

The Titans, through their social media post, also spoke about their larger-than-life goals “We hail from the land of lofty ambitions – home to the largest cricket stadium and tallest statue in the world. Our homage is also to the state’s rich cricketing legacy that has produced legends.”

Ahead of the upcoming auction, the Titans had signed up Hardik Pandya as the skipper of the side while also draft-picking the star Afghani spinner Rashid Khan and young Indian opening batter Shubhman Gill ahead of the upcoming mega-auction. The team first signed up the skipper Hardik Pandya for INR 15 Crores followed by Rashid Khan and then Shubhman Gill for INR 8 Crores.

The Gujarat side’s coaching units comprise some of the legends of the game. Vikram Solanki has been appointed as the director of cricket while Gary Kirsten, the moving force behind India’s World Cup victory in 2011, has been appointed as the batting coach of the side. Former Indian left-arm seamer and 2011 World Cup winner Ashish Nehra has been appointed as the head coach.

With the mega auction coming up on the 12th and 13th of February, the side will be looking forward to adding some key players in the squad who’ll help them lift the cup.
