The IPL 2022 mega auction is just a day away and all the participating teams would be looking forward to bidding aggressively for key players at the two-day event in Bengaluru. All the eight existing teams have made their mandatory player retentions well in advance, while the new entrants Lucknow Super Giants and Gujarat Titans have also made their picks from the non-retained players.

As all the teams gear up to make some smart buys in the IPL 2022 mega auction, it needs to be understood that not all the players would be sold on the first day and if all teams or a particular team does not succeed in roping in a player on board in case they are unsure or due to some other reasons, they all will get another chance to buy those players on the second day of the mega auction i.e. on Sunday in an accelerated round.

Here’s All You Need to Know About the Accelerated Process in the IPL Auction:

The idea behind the accelerated process in the IPL auction is to ensure that the whole process happens quickly. At the end of the first day’s auction, all the participating franchises will get an opportunity to nominate the players from the remaining pool that they are interested in buying and the selected players would go under the hammer on Day 2 of the event.

Things do not end here as the process could be repeated again should any franchise wish to further nominate an unpresented or unsold player. Thus, it would also give another chance for the unsold players to find a team that would eventually hand them an IPL contract to showcase their talent.

With 590 players (370 Indians and 220 overseas) shortlisted to go under the hammer, it would be interesting to see what the final squads will look like this weekend. Key players like Jason Holder, David Warner, Trent Boult, Mohammed Shami, etc. could certainly be in everybody’s scheme of things and it remains to be seen which team will come out on top at the auction table with the available purse.
