IPL 2022: Andrew Tye joins Lucknow Super Giants as a replacement for injured Mark Wood
The right-arm pacer, who has so far played 27 IPL matches and has picked 40 wickets, will join LSG for the price of INR 1 Crore.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have signed Andrew Tye as a replacement for the injured England pacer Mark Wood for the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022. Wood suffered an elbow injury during England’s first Test against West Indies earlier this month. Tye has represented Australia in 32 T20Is and picked 47 wickets.
The right-arm pacer, who has so far played 27 IPL matches and has picked 40 wickets, will join LSG for the price of INR 1 Crore. LSG – who will be making their IPL debut this season – will begin their IPL 2022 campaign on March 28 when they take on Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Tye is a seasoned T20 specialist who is also well versed with the drill of IPL. In fact, he bagged the purple cap in the 2018 edition of the competition wherein he represented Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings). Hence, expectations are pretty high from the 35-year-old.

Wood has also been impressive in his recent T20 assignments. Hence, his departure left a significant void in the LSG squad and to fill the same, Tye has been roped in. Speaking of the Aussie pacer’s numbers in the shortest international format, Tye has 251 wickets in 182 T20s which also includes a couple of five-wicket hauls.
Moreover, he has even taken a hat-trick in IPL. The veteran pacer will join forces with Avesh Khan, Ankit Rajput and Jason Holder’s in LSG’s fast bowling department. It must be noted that LSG will make their IPL debut this season and many eyes will be on them. KL Rahul will lead the team and he would be raring to take his side to glory.
He will be assisted by the likes of Manish Pandey, Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis in the batting order. Notably, Lucknow’s main strength this season will be their all-rounders as there are numerous multi-dimensional players in the side like Krunal Pandya, Deepak Hooda, Marcus Stoinis and Jason Holder. Meanwhile, LSG will kickstart their campaign against Hardik Pandya’s Gujarat Titans on March 28.
