Punjab Kings assistant coach Andy Flower has decided to step down. The former Zimbabwe player is expected to be roped in by one of the new teams ahead of IPL 2022. He has a plethora of coaching experience under his sleeves and will be a great asset for any team.
Flower worked as a coach in England for more than a decade and provided his valuable services to the national team there. He was roped in for his maiden IPL stint ahead of the 2020 season. However, as per the recent turn of events, there are chances that he might get a bigger role in his next IPL assignment.
“He sent his resignation to the team recently. It has been accepted. There is a good chance that he goes to one of the new teams (Lucknow or Ahmedabad),” a BCCI official said as reported by Indian Express.
Andy flower was associated with PBKS for two years
Andy flower had worked alongside India’s former cricketer Anil Kumble for Punjab Kings for the last two seasons. He has also been associated with the CPL franchise Saint Lucia Kings, which has the same owner as that of PBKS. Thus, it will be interesting to see if he continues his stint with Saint Lucia Kings, the team which has finished as the runners-up in CPL 2020 and 2021.
Recently, all the existing eight franchises of the IPL had announced the list of their retained players. Punjab Kings has retained Mayank Agarwal and Arshdeep Singh for the upcoming three seasons. The co-owner of the franchise had thus opened up on the retentions made by the team.
“We are really happy about retaining Mayank and Arshdeep. Mayank has been a phenomenal player for us, really loyal to the franchise. Arshdeep also has been with us for a while and I can only see him improving. I see him playing for India in the near future.
At Punjab Kings, I don’t think we have done as well as we should have and could have. We could have definitely done better. The most important thing is we strive to ensure the players and staff get the freedom they deserve and there is unity among them. One has to now look at continuing that spirit. Hopefully, we will get the right combination at the auction and we go forward from there,” Wadia had said.
