IPL 2022 Auction: Auctioneer Hugh Edmeades awake and doing well after collapsing during live bidding
An early lunch has been taken in the event.
In a shocking development, the IPL auctioneer Hugh Edmeades fell off the stage suddenly during the mega auction in Bengaluru. The incident happened when Sri Lanka all-rounder Wanindu Hasaranga was in the auction process with the Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the bidding war for him. When the bid had raised up to INR 10.75 crore, Edemeades suddenly fainted and fell off the stage taking everyone by shock.
The mega auction has been stopped right now and there is no update as of now on the health of the auctioneer. Things were going fine until then and Hugh was also enjoying the event with players going for big bucks. As of now, an early lunch has been taken in the auction.
Meanwhile, BCCI has shared an update saying Hugh Edmeades is absolutely fine and the auction will be resuming at 3.30 PM IST. “Our auctioneer is stable. The medical guys are attending to him. He should be back for the next set,” the BCCI statement. Auction is set to resume at 3.30 PM IST.
Even Gautam Bhimani, a well known cricket presenter, had given an update earlier from Bengaluru stating that Hugh Edmeades is fine and there have been no internal issues with him. “Update from ground zero! Hugh Edmeades the auctioneer is fine but a bit shaken! Was a physical fall no internal issues with him,” he tweeted while doing a show for Cricbuzz. It remains to be seen when the auction resumes now.
Shreyas Iyer most expensive player as of now
Shreyas Iyer is the most expensive player until now with KKR securing his services for INR 12.25 crore. He will most probably become the captain of the franchise, however, officially nothing has been announced. Meanwhile, India pacer Harshal Patel who was also the purple cap winner from the last season was bought by RCB yet again winning the bidding war against CSK and SRH.
Five more players to have earned a bid of more than 8 crore so far are Kagiso Rabada (9.25 cr), Shikhar Dhawan (8.25 cr), Shimron Hetmyer (8.5 cr), Nitish Rana (8 cr) and Jason Holder (8.75 cr). Only four players who have gone unsold are David Miller, Suresh Raina, Steve Smith and Shakib Al Hasan. However, these players can come back into the auction later.
