The IPL 2022 mega auction bagged the attention of fans in various ways wherein a huge sum of money was splashed on some unexpected players too. On the other hand, some big names walked away while having very basic deals. There was another element that attracted a lot of attention in the mega auction and it was the tactics shown by Delhi Capitals’ co-owner Kiran Kumar Grandhi.

During one of the bids, he created confusion with Charu Sharma, who was carrying out the auction process after Hugh Edmeades had an abrupt fall. Charu called the name for pacer Khaleel Ahmed and Mumbai Indians were first to initiate the bid for INR 5.25 Crore but Grandhi raised the paddle for 5.5 Crore and Sharma felt it was the initial bid from Delhi Capitals.

Delhi Capitals hailed at IPL mega auction for their strategies

The situation turned more confusing when Grandhi said to wait further and Sharma ended up selling Khaleel to DC only at 5.25 Crore. It is to be noted that he was appreciated by a lot of fans for not letting franchises take away quality players at low prices. He remained instrumental in increasing the price of a lot of players and has been an integral part of Delhi’s auction setup for many years now.

Grandhi is currently heading six companies along being associated with Capitals. DC was hailed by fans for great strategies on day one of the auction and they carried the same on the second day as well. After retaining Rishabh Pant, Axar Patel, Anrich Nortje, and Prithvi Shaw, they went on to buy 19 players in the mega auction and there was one steal deal from their end too.

DC bagged the services of star batter David Warner for only INR 6.25 Crore. He is a proven batter and has bagged the Orange Cap for a record three times in the history of IPL. As he wasn’t retained by SRH, DC went on to have his services for IPL 2022.
