IPL 2022: Best Indian XI from week six

The 15th edition of the India Premier League (IPL 2022) is nearing its end as most of the teams have played more than 80% of their matches along with the start of reverse fixtures. This week saw some of the players continue their good form while some new young players showcased their talent by using the opportunity provided. This kind of performance from different players makes the team’s confidence boost as they take every step possible to qualify for the playoffs and perhaps clinch the IPL title. Here is a look at the best Indian XI from the sixth week of IPL 2022: 1. Ruturaj Gaikwad Ruturaj Gaikwad. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Ruturaj Gaikwad’s 2022 season hasn’t been the same as 2021 when he won the orange cap and played an essential role in CSK winning the tournament. Many expected Gaikwad to start strong but what followed was a string of low scores that hampered CSK’s momentum in IPL 2022. This season saw CSK management and fans in disappointment as Gaikwad couldn’t repeat his heroics from IPL 2021. As a result, CSK struggled with their opening partnership. His absence in the runs column put pressure on Robin Uthappa, who has contributed decently to the top order. However, this week saw Gaikwad regaining his form, with him going berserk against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. His fantastic innings of 99 off just 57 balls helped CSK post more than 200 and ultimately win the match. This is a good sign for the Super Kings franchise as Gaikwad can be dangerous in the latter half of the tournament. 2. KL Rahul KL Rahul. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) KL Rahul has been in tremendous form in the past five seasons with the only change being the team he is playing for. The skipper of the Lucknow franchise has already amassed two centuries this season, both of which came against the Mumbai Indians. His brilliant batting along with some valuable middle-order cameos and great bowling has made Lucknow a possible contender to win the IPL 2022 trophy in their very first season, something which Rahul tried to get in his previous outing with the Punjab franchise, but couldn’t achieve it. Rahul’s excellent form continued in the last game too, as he scored 77 with 4 fours and 5 sixes resulting in LSG beating the Capitals by six runs in a high-scoring thriller. If Rahul ends up batting the same way, he may very well end up winning the Orange Cap in one hand along with holding the IPL trophy in the other. 3. Suryakumar Yadav Suryakumar Yadav. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Suryakumar Yadav has been the only positive for the five-time IPL champions who have had a disastrous season with them losing all their first eight matches. Yadav who was injured for the first two matches returned with a bang with him being the lone contributor in almost all of the MI’s games. He has so far scored three fifty-plus scores and three thirties. The right-hander has been the lone warrior for MI helping them come out of the tough situations in almost every game. The last Mumbai game this week saw Surya score yet another fifty vs the Rajasthan Royals which was influential in MI chasing Royal’s score of 158. Mumbai Indians have been knocked out of IPL 2022 and all Suryakumar can do is continue the good form which will make the selectors keep an eye on him as he would be one of the better batters going into the T20 world cup to be held in Australia. 4. Deepak Hooda Deepak Hooda. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Deepak Hooda has been the next best batter for the Lucknow Super Giants after KL Rahul with the former contributing most of the runs along with his skipper. Ever since his Indian debut, Deepak Hooda’s batting form has improved drastically scoring runs in almost every outing for the Super Giants. He also bowls off-spin which makes him so valuable for the team as they can mix their bowling attack depending upon the pitch they play. Deepak has gone on to score three good half-centuries this season which will surely boost his confidence. His recent 50+ score which came against the Delhi Capitals helped LSG post a huge total of 195-3 which the Capitals failed to chase. Hooda should continue his form which will be beneficial for their side, as there has been minimal support for Rahul in LSG’s batting order. 5. Rishabh Pant Rishabh Pant. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The Delhi capital’s skipper has been on a rough patch this season, with him most likely getting starts but couldn’t end up capitalizing on that. This has made the Delhi team suffer as Pant is one of their key batters and him getting out at the wrong time proves costly for them. It wasn’t the case this week, as we saw Pant slowly come back to his form with two crucial knocks. On the first of May, we saw Pant smack a good 44 off 30 deliveries which made Delhi get close to the LSG’s score of 195. The second knock saw him play an eventful cameo against the Sunrisers Hyderabad where he took on the bowlers in his innings of 26 in just 16 deliveries which contained a four and three maximums. This cameo inning which was his free-flowing nature of play along with Warner’s 92* and Powell’s 67* helped Delhi go past the 200-run mark which proved to be too much for SRH as they failed to chase the total and ended up losing the game by 21 runs. 6. Rajat Patidar Rajat Patidar. (Photo Source: Twitter) Rajat Patidar who was given an opportunity after Anuj Rawat’s slight dip in form is making his position strong in RCB’s team with his attacking nature of batting. This helped RCB post a commendable total, with the other experienced top-order batters alongside him. Patidar who was given a few opportunities last year didn’t live up to the expectations and was subsequently dropped from the line-up. However, this season saw him making some quick-fire contributions which have so far made him reliable. This week has been great for Patidar with him scoring a handy 52 off 32 balls against the Gujarat Titans and adding up another quickfire 21 off just 15 against the Chennai Super Kings. If he continues the good form, he can very well be the next big promising star for the RCB franchise. 7. Dinesh Karthik Dinesh Karthik. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Dinesh Karthik who was bought by the Royal Challengers Banglore in this year’s IPL auction has made full use of it by performing in almost every single match for his franchise. He has made himself a finisher rather than a middle-order batsman which has done wonders for the Bangalore team. Karthik has been the consistent performer for RCB with only a couple of matches being an exemption. He said in an interview during the starting week of IPL 2022 that he is planning to return to the Indian side to be a part of this year’s ICC T20 World Cup. He is justifying his words through his actions as Karthik has been one of the leading runs getters for RCB just after his captain Faf, for the Bangalore franchise with him being there till the very end to win the game. This week we saw Karthik smash a handy 26 within a short amount of time against CSK which made RCB post a commendable total of 173 runs. 8. Axar Patel Axar Patel. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Axar Patel’s all-around skills are helping Delhi Capitals this time around too as they are currently placed at the fifth position on the points table. Patel was one of the retained players for Delhi from the last season and he is proving once again why he was retained ahead of some big names. Axar went on to score a good fighting 42 off just 24 balls against the Lucknow Super Giants smashing 3 sixes along with a boundary. He was also economical in his bowling conceding just 25 out of his four overs. He has even previously finished the game for his side along with Lalit Yadav during their first match against the Mumbai Indians. With his improved batting, Axar is slowly becoming India’s next best all-rounder after the likes of Hardik Pandya, Ravichandran Ashwin, and Ravindra Jadeja. He has already cemented his place in the test side and it is only a matter of time before he becomes a regular in the white ball setups too. 9. Bhuvneshwar Kumar Bhuvneshwar Kumar. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Bhuvneshwar Kumar has been the loyal mainstay player for the SRH franchise for several years now and is still proving why he is one of the key players for the Orange army side by bowling some exceptional spells which have helped them pull off some games from a no-win situation. This week saw Bhuvneshwar bowl brilliantly against the Chennai Super Kings with him being economical by just giving away 22 runs in his 4 over quota. In their next game, Bhuvi’s first spell saw him bowl 2 overs in which he bowled a maiden over and took a wicket as well. He finished his spell against the Delhi Capitals with figures of 4-1-25-1. This kind of bowling is helping the SRH team a lot, as he alongside Umran Malik and T Natarajan has made batters struggle to score runs which eventually helps Hyderabad get on top of their opposition in critical situations. 10. Khaleel Ahmed Khaleel Ahmed. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) Khaleel Ahmed along with Kuldeep Yadav has been one of the surprising and key players in the IPL 2022 Delhi Capitals setup. Khaleel has been consistently performing well. His ability to come back into form by picking wickets at regular intervals has made the Capital’s bowling attack look more lethal. Khaleel who had a bad season for the Sunrisers franchise last year was bought by the Delhi team in this year’s mega auction to add a left-arm pacer to their squad. Many thought he would sit on the bench and someone like Chetan Sakariya would get a chance instead. However, Khaleel was backed by the team and has been doing well since the first game. He was injured for a couple of games but returned this week in great fashion picking 3 for 30 against his former franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad. 11. Mohsin Khan Mohsin Khan. (Photo Source: IPL/BCCI) The boy from Uttar Pradesh who got a chance after Avesh Khan sustained an injury has been in splendid form ever since. His debut game saw him bowl two overs for eighteen runs without taking a single wicket which made him sit out for the next couple of games. However, he returned to the side once again during Lucknow’s reverse fixture game against the Mumbai Indians where he bowled economically. His next game against the Punjab Kings saw him bowl well with his figures being 4-1-24-3. He once again proved his worth this week by picking four wickets for just 16 runs against Delhi Capitals which helped Lucknow win and thus earned his first-ever “Man of the Match” award. With the coaching staff that LSG has, Khan can be nurtured well for him to become a very good fast bowler in the future.
