A lot will be expected from the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2022 as they would be defending their title this time around. CSK, who had a forgettable 2020 campaign in the UAE where they failed to make the playoffs for the very first time, staged a remarkable comeback in the 2021 season where they went on to win the marquee tournament for the fourth time after getting the better of a resurgent Kolkata Knight Riders in the summit clash by 27 runs.

The 15th edition of the marquee tournament officially gets underway on March 26, and CSK would like to carry on from where they left off as they eye a record-equaling fifth IPL title. With less than three weeks to go, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for the highly-anticipated tournament and the title-holders Chennai will kick off the proceedings against their last season’s final opponents KKR in the opener.  The schedule was announced by the BCCI on March 6 and all the die-hard fans of the franchise must have made a note of it as well.

Meanwhile, the Yellow Army had named skipper MS Dhoni, all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Moeen Ali as well as the last edition’s Orange Cap winner Ruturaj Gaikwad as their mandatory retentions ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction. At the two-day event in Bengaluru, the reigning champions welcomed the likes of Shivam Dube (INR 4 crore), Mitchell Santner (INR 1.9 crore),  Rajvardhan Hangargekar (INR 1.5 crores), Dwayne Pretorius (INR 50 lakh), Maheesh Theekshana (INR 70 lakh), Adam Milne (1.9 crore), Devon Conway (1 crore), Chris Jordan (3.6 crore), etc. The four-time champions also decided to bring back the likes of Dwayne Bravo (INR 4.40 crore), Robin Uthappa (INR 2 crore), Ambati Rayudu (6.74 crore), and Deepak Chahar (14 crore) respectively.

As the Chennai Super Kings get ready for title defence, they have received a huge setback as their key bowling all-rounder Deepak Chahar is expected to miss a major portion of IPL 2022 due to a quadriceps tear. It remains to be seen who would take the initiative of filling in those big shoes starting March 26.
