Chennai Super Kings’ medium pacer Deepak Chahar is likely to not return to cricketing action any sooner after suffering a back injury during his rehabilitation in NCA, Bengaluru. Chahar had been recovering well from the quadriceps tear that he picked up against West Indies in February and was expected to return to the IPL action towards the end of April.
However, a big question mark has popped up over his IPL return now with the back injury although CSK is yet to get a formal report from BCCI over the intensity of the injury as reported by ESPN Cricinfo.
Chahar has been a huge miss for the Chennai Super Kings so far in this edition as he tends to give breakthroughs with the new ball and has been groomed into a good death overs bowler as well. The 29-year-old played a big part in the title-winning campaign for CSK last year and his batting credentials are yet to be unlocked in IPL, though he has had some excellent outings in international cricket with the bat.
CSK struggling to find form without Deepak Chahar
Chahar wasn’t retained by the Chennai Super Kings ahead of the IPL 2022 mega auction and after an immense bidding war between the franchises, Chahar was brought back by his former franchise for a whopping INR 14 Crore to become the second most expensive player in the auction this year. However, CSK has not been able to make up for the void created by his absence and has suffered four straight losses in their first four games so far in IPL 2022.
The inclusion of Tushar Deshpande, Adam Milne, Mukesh Choudhary, or Chris Jordan hasn’t made any difference to the results for the franchise and they will be looking to provide chances for KM Asif or Rajvardhan Hangargekar in the upcoming games. Chahar has turned into a potential candidate for the Indian squad in the T20 World Cup 2022 this year in Australia with some brilliant performances in recent times, and the management will not be looking to risk him any time soon with the big event coming up.
