All existing franchises were permitted to keep a maximum of four players, either two Indians and two overseas or three Indians and one overseas. Prior to the auction, a maximum of two uncapped players may be retained. Furthermore, the two new teams would be allowed to select three players from the auction pool, two Indians and one overseas.
