Fixing – the word has continued to unfortunately be associated with the Indian Premier League (IPL), at least on social media, right through its journey, more so after the 2013 spot-fixing scandal that saw several players getting arrested along with the franchise owners as well. The word is once again trending on social media with Gujarat Titans winning the title in their maiden season on their home ground, at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
The Titans, led by Hardik Pandya, defeated Rajasthan Royals comfortably by seven wickets in the final. The skipper led from the front picking three wickets for just 17 runs and then scoring a vital 34 in a tricky chase of 131. He was deservedly awarded Player of the Match as well.
The final was attended by a lot of dignitaries including India’s home minister Amit Shah who also happens to be the father of BCCI Secretary Jay Shah. This is the reason why social media is buzzing with the word ‘fixing’ at the moment. Twitter feels that the game was politically fixed with Amit Shah and Narendra Modi belonging to the state.
Gujarat Titans – Most consistent team in IPL 2022
However, the allegations seem unfair to Gujarat Titans who played some excellent and consistent cricket throughout the season. Perhaps, they were the best team this season winning 10 out of 14 matches in the league stage and then backing it with a stunning show in both playoff games including the final.
Different players stepped up for them at crunch moments as they won around 5-6 matches in the final over of the innings. While Hardik impressed with his all-round abilities, David Miller had his best IPL season thanks to the role clarity and the backing he got. The bowling attack comprising Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan, with others playing a supporting role, was one of the best too.
Gujarat Titans are the deserving winners of IPL 2022 but no one can stop social media geeks from expressing their views which have led to ‘fixing’ trending on Twitter.
Here are some of the tweets:

Secretary of BCCI is Jay Shah.

Is this the way a BCCI official should celebrate on a individual team's victory, where is professionalism and neutrality.
Looks like it was all previously fixed. #fixing
