The Royal Challengers Bangalore must win their ongoing IPL 2022 clash against the Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai by a big margin in order to assure themselves a playoff berth for a third straight season. RCB were asked to field first after the coin landed in the favour of GT skipper Hardik Pandya.
Bangalore decided to bench frontline pacer Mohammed Siraj and replaced him with Siddharth Kaul. The Titans got off to a flying start courtesy of some blistering shots from Wriddhiman Saha and at one stage it appeared that both in-form batters would set the platform for a mammoth total. However, that was not to be as Glenn Maxwell’s blinder provided a much-needed breakthrough for RCB.
Glenn Maxwell’s stunner breaks a dangerous-looking opening stand
This happened in the third over of the first innings that was bowled by Australian pacer Josh Hazlewood. On the third delivery of that over, Hazlewood bowled a length ball outside off stump as Shubman Gill attempted to play it according to the line. Nonetheless, the ball shaped away after pitching and ended up taking the outside edge of the opener’s bat.
Initially, it appeared as if the ball would fly past the slips but, Maxwell who was stationed over there showed a great presence of mind as he instantly dived to his right and successfully caught the ball with just one hand to complete an incredible catch. Bangalore players celebrated in elation as Gill went back to the pavillion with just one run to his name.

Despite the toss not going their way, the Bangalore bowlers succeeded in removing Gujarat’s top-order just after powerplay with the hard-hitting trio of Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, and Matthew Wade walking back to the dugout. Only Saha made the most of his good start to a certain extent before an unfortunate run out in the ninth over brought curtains down on his stay at the crease. He went back scoring 31 runs off 22 deliveries at a strike rate of nearly 141.
