Mumbai Indians buy Jofra Archer in the mega auction
Archer has always been funnily referenced to as a prophet following his tweets from years ago, dug up by fans, which seemed to predict certain events correctly in cricket. Following his purchase by Mumbai, a few tweets by Archer in 2014 resurfaced wherein he tweeted “Mumbai or RR” in 2013, probably predicting the bidding battle. Another tweet surfaced which said “Mumbai deserve it” and to this his new franchise Mumbai replied in a cheeky manner, saying “Yes we know”.
Since the last year, Archer has not played at the highest level for almost a year now and his absence will stretch a bit more after it was decided the recurring stress fracture in his right elbow needed another operation. Archer will not be available for this season of the IPL but will play from the next season onwards.
The mega auction for IPL 2020 got underway in Bengaluru on Saturday. Around 600 players went under the hammer, keeping the whole cricketing world on the edge of their seats. The second day of the auction has seen some high-octane bidding for various players.
Mumbai Indians, who seemed to be silent for the most part of the auction surprised everyone when they broke their bank for Indian wicketkeeper-batter Ishan Kishan and brought him back for a whopping price of INR 15.25 Crores.
