The Match 23 of IPL 2022 saw the Punjab Kings defeat Mumbai Indians by 12 runs at the Maharashtra Cricket Association Stadium in Pune on April 13. PBKS staged a remarkable comeback once they got rid of MI’s dynamic middle-order duo Kieron Pollard and Suryakumar Yadav.
However, it was a priceless off-the-field moment that stood out the most which featured two of the cricket legends, Sachin Tendulkar and Jonty Rhodes. It was Rhodes’ heartwarming gesture towards the Master Blaster which not only won a lot of hearts but also went viral on social media in no time.

Coming back to the contest, MI skipper Rohit Sharma invited PBKS to bat after calling it right at the toss. Punjab openers Mayank Agarwal and Shikhar Dhawan went after the bowlers from the beginning as they added 97 runs. Agarwal scored 52 runs from 32 deliveries while Dhawan made a tremendous impact with a blistering 50-ball 70. A crucial 30 runs from wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma towards the end helped Punjab Kings post a stiff 198/5.
In reply, Dewald Brevis (49) and Tilak Varma (36) made a statement as they reduced the deficit for MI with their enterprising batting performances. Middle-overs sensation Suryakumar Yadav then took matters in his hands and single-handedly looked to help Mumbai get over the line after a disastrous mix-up ended Kieron Pollard’s stay in the middle. Yadav scored a sublime 43 runs from 30 deliveries and the game was poised for a thrilling finish.
However, a mistimed shot off Kagiso Rabada on the fourth ball of the penultimate over meant that Mumbai Indians’ hopes were dashed after Odean Smith completed an easy catch while the rest of the batters failed to make any significant contributions.
