IPL 2022: Jos Buttler scores most runs ever in first seven matches of the season
Buttler has so far scored 491 runs in seven matches in IPL 2022.
Rajasthan Royals batter Jos Buttler is in the form of his life at the moment in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. He has already smashed three centuries in the seven matches and also has two fifties to his name. His third ton, and a successive one, came against Delhi Capitals on Friday (April 22) as he took his tally to 491 at a strike-rate of 161.51 and an average of 81.83. Buttler has also smacked 32 sixes so far in this season, the best by a long way for any batter.
Going by his form, the England batter is certainly on his way to breaking Virat Kohli’s record of most runs ever in a single season. The former RCB captain had amassed a whopping 973 runs with four centuries in IPL 2016. Buttler is clearly on his way to scoring an unthinkable 1000 runs in a season given his current form. While it remains to be seen if he can break the four-digit barrier, the man has already amassed the most runs ever in the IPL after the first seven matches of the season.
Jos Buttler broke a long standing 11-year-old record of Chris Gayle in this aspect. The Universe Boss held the record scoring 436 runs in his first seven matches during the 2011 edition of the cash-rich league. Gayle had amassed 608 runs in 12 matches in 2011 scoring three fifties and two hundreds.
Buttler went past Kohli, Maxwell and Warner as well
The other three in this list are Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and David Warner who scored 400 or more runs in the first seven matches of an IPL season. Maxwell who is playing for RCB currently had a dream season for Punjab Kings, then Kings XI Punjab, in 2014 when he had smashed 435 runs in the 2014 season. Kohli was at the forefront scoring 433 runs during his impeccable 2016 IPL, the same season when he shattered records for fun while Warner had reached the 400-run mark exactly at the halfway mark in 2019.
