IPL 2022: Kieron Pollard consoles Suryakumar Yadav after he gets run-out in a horrible mix-up
Pollard made sure he motivated his teammate who was disappointed and was sitting on his haunches.
Mumbai Indians have succumbed to their fifth consecutive loss in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season. They went down to Punjab Kings in Pune, chasing 199, and fell short by 12 runs in the contest. The five-time champions were themselves to blame for committing unnecessary errors when they were well and truly in the hunt to win the game. It was first Tilak Varma throwing his wicket away, running himself out, but the mix-up between Suryakumar Yadav and Kieron Pollard resulting in the latter getting out hurt them the most.
The incident happened in the 17th over of the innings when Mumbai still needed 48 runs in the last four overs. Kieron Pollard blunted the first delivery to long on and seemed to be looking to settle for a single. But Odean Smith mis-fielded the ball and this is when Suryakumar Yadav sensed a chance to seal a second run. Pollard, at the other end, had just reached his crease and looking at his partner run, he responded to the call.
Smith fires in a good throw
But by then, it was too late and Smith fired in a quick throw and Pollard was short by a mile. It was a completely suicidal run from MI’s two match-winners and the decision-making was not correct on that occasion. It also turned the game on its head as it was MI’s game to lose despite the fact that they needed 12 runs per over.
No wonder Surya was distraught after the run-out. Pollard was also disappointed as the mix-up led to him getting out. However, the Caribbean veteran made sure that he didn’t let his partner down in the middle. When Surya was sitting on his haunches ruing his wrong call for an extra run, Pollard went and consoled him and also tried to motivate him with his words. It was a nice gesture on his part as normally, emotions tend to take over in such close matches.
