Punjab Kings (PBKS) defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the 11th match of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) on Sunday (April 3). It was a perfect day for the Punjab side as their all-rounder Liam Livingstone lived up to his reputation with both bat and ball while their bowlers also put in a special effort to defend a below-par 180 against CSK who have now lost their third consecutive game of the season.
Coming back to Livingstone, the man smacked a brilliant 60 off 32 balls with five fours and a massive five maximums which also included a 108-metre six of Mukesh Choudhary to start off the fireworks. The England batter smacked 26 runs in the same over of the left-arm pacer. However, that wasn’t the end of contribution in the match for Liam Livingstone.
Liam Livingstone’s stunning effort with the ball
The 28-year-old came to the party with the ball as well. Mayank Agarwal cleverly brought the leg-spinner into the attack with MS Dhoni in the middle as the veteran struggles to play against such bowlers. While Livingstone couldn’t dismiss the former CSK skipper, he nipped out Shivam Dube and Dwayne Bravo off successive deliveries.
And the catch taken to send back Bravo was absolutely special. It was the last ball of the 15th over and Livingstone already had his tail up having dismissed Dube off the previous delivery. He pushed a gentle leg-break on a length which Bravo got forward to defend. But the ball popped up in the air and it was well wide of the bowler.
However, Liam Livingstone couldn’t do anything wrong on the day and flew to his left to grab a sensational catch. It was a brilliant effort and least expected given that the ball was very much wide. However, the man showed off his fielding skills on his best day at the office. Moreover, he almost got a hat-trick in the next over when MS Dhoni looked to smack him out of the park only for the ball to be out of Shahrukh Khan’s reach in the deep.
Here’s the video of the catch:
