Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) put more misery on Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) as they defeated the Orange Army by 12 runs in Match 12 of IPL 2022 at the Dr DY Patil Sports Academy in Navi Mumbai. Half-centuries from skipper KL Rahul and Deepak Hooda and exceptional bowling from Avesh Khan, who took his best figures of 4/24 in the IPL, helped the new franchise LSG to win their second match in the campaign. SRH have now lost 13 of the last 16 matches in the league, including the opening two games in this edition.
Talking about how the encounter panned out, captain Kane Williamson won the toss and SRH opted to field first with an unchanged side. Wicketkeeper-batter Quinton de Kock and Evin Lewis, who both smashed fifties in the last match, managed just a single run apiece. Manish Pandey’s struggle in this edition continued as he just scored 11 runs. Rahul and Hooda both slammed fifties as LSG finished with a total of 169/7 in their 20 overs. Washington Sundar and T Natarajan bowled solid spells of 2/28 and 2/26 respectively.
Chasing 170 to win, skipper Kane Williamson made 16 as Abhishek Sharma amassed just 13 runs. Rahul Tripathi was the top scorer for SRH as he mustered 44 runs off 30 deliveries with five fours and a six. Aiden Markram’s innings was cut short by Krunal Pandya as the Proteas batter scored 12 runs.
Nicholas Pooran looked like getting back into some form as the power-hitter smashed 34 runs off 24 balls with three fours and two maximums but Avesh dismissed him to bring back LSG into the match. Once Pooran got out, Super Giants sensed victory as Holder also took 3/34 to script the second win for his team. Avesh Khan was adjudged the Player of the Match for his match-winning spell.
