Abhishek Sharma scored his maiden half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) handed Chennai Super Kings their fourth successive defeat in Match 17 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Abhishek played a solid knock of 75 runs off 50 deliveries which included five fours and three maximums with the Orange Army chasing down the target of 155 in 17.4 overs to win the clash by eight wickets.

Speaking about how the Southern Derby panned out, Kane Williamson won the toss for SRH and opted to field first. They made two changes as Abdul Samad and Romario Shepherd made way for Shashank Singh and Marco Jansen respectively. CSK replaced Dwaine Pretorius with the Sri Lanka spinner Maheesh Theekshana.

Ruturaj Gaikwad’s horrendous run continued as he managed just 16 runs. Robin Uthappa made only 15 runs with Moeen Ali top-scoring for the Men in Yellow with his 48 runs knock. Ambati Rayudu and Ravindra Jadeja amassed 27 and 23 runs respectively as CSK reached a total of just 154/7. Washington Sundar bowled a brilliant spell of 2/21 and T Natarajan 2/30 as both the bowlers restricted CSK from posting a big total.

Abhishek slammed his first fifty in the 25th IPL inning as the left-handed batter shared an opening stand of 89 runs with skipper Williamson. Rahul Tripathi played a quickfire inning of 39 runs off just 15 balls with five fours and two sixes as Kane and his side won the match with 14 balls to spare. SRH finally opened their account with a victory with CSK still remaining winless. For the first time in the IPL history, CSK has lost the first four matches of an IPL season. For his fantastic knock, Abhishek Sharma was declared Player of the Match.
