The second match of the IPL 2022 took place between the five-time champions Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals. Rishabh Pant won the toss and elected to bowl, putting Rohit Sharma’s men to bat first. MI handed out caps to Tilak Varma, Tim David, Murugan Ashwin, Tymal Mills, and Daniel Sams. For DC, Tim Seifert, Rovman Powell, Shardul Thakur, Kamlesh Nagarkoti, Kuldeep Yadav, and Khaleel Ahmed received their caps.

Starting with the bat, MI openers Ishan Kishan and Rohit gave a terrific start to their team as the two put up a great show and ended the powerplay scoring 53 runs, and bringing up a fifty-run stand. It was Kuldeep Yadav who broke the partnership when he dismissed Rohit for 41(32). Anmolpreet Singh, who replaced Rohit couldn’t do much with the bat as he scored eight (nine) before walking back.

Tilak and Ishan steadied the innings for a bit, but the former had to make his way back soon. Even the hit machine- Kieron Pollard failed to score big and was dismissed at three (six). Kuldeep Yadav displayed a brilliant bowling performance as he picked up Varma and Pollard early and ended his bowling with a 3/18 in four overs. Kishan stood unbeaten at the end of the innings with a class performance of 81*(48) and MI posted a total of 177/5.

Delhi Capitals beat Mumbai Indians by four wickets in an exhilarating second game

Chasing 175+ in 20 overs, DC openers Prithvi Shaw and Seifert came out to open their game with the bat. The latter, and newcomer into the team, was off to a great start as he hit 21 runs in 14 balls, including four boundaries. But DC’s game came tumbling down after Seifert’s dismissal. Murugan Ashwin struck twice in the fourth over to dismiss Seifert and Mandeep Singh.

DC lost all their top performers back-to-back and they finished their powerplay scoring 46 runs at the loss of three wickets. Tymal Mills picked up his maiden scalp as he dismissed skipper Rishabh for one (2). Even after a strong start, DC found itself on the downside. Prithvi Shaw played a good role on his part and walked back scoring a 24 ball 38.

Even Rovman Powell couldn’t put up a show and was dismissed for a two-ball duck, just one ball after Shaw’s dismissal. It was Lalit Yadav and Axar Patel who anchored the innings down the line.  The former displayed an amazing performance and turned the game by 360 degrees to lead his team towards a victory.

When no one expected DC to win after they lost five quick wickets in succession, Lalit Yadav and Patel’s partnership did wonders for their team and they managed to chase down the target of 178 runs with 10 balls to spare. Delhi won their campaign opener by four wickets in a thrilling fight. Kuldeep Yadav’s three-wicket haul and Lalit Yadav’s 48*(38) helped DC sail past MI.
