Gujarat Titans skipper Hardik Pandya played a scintillating knock of 87 runs off just 52 deliveries with eight fours and four maximums as his side defeated Rajasthan Royals (RR) by 37 runs in Match 24 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Hardik also took a wicket alongside inflicting a solid direct hit to run out his opposite number Sanju Samson. With this victory, the Titans have now advanced atop the table with eight points.

Talking about how the game unfolded, Sanju Samson won the toss and elected to field first. RR had suffered a huge blow as pacer Trent Boult was ruled out of the match due to a niggle with his countryman Jimmy Neesham replacing him. GT made two changes as Sai Sudharsan and Darshan Nalkande made way for Vijay Shankar and Yash Dayal respectively. Matthew Wade’s struggle in the IPL continued as he managed only 12 runs.

Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar also couldn’t do much as they amassed 13 and two runs respectively. Captain Hardik then led his side from the front as he played a brilliant knock with a strike rate of 167.31. Abhinav Manohar and David Miller joined the party as well. While the former mustered 43 off 28 deliveries, Miller slammed a quickfire 14-ball unbeaten 31 runs. The Titans reached a huge total of 192/4 in their allotted 20 overs.

Jos Buttler began the run chase in typical Jos Buttler fashion as he reached his half-century in no time. The England international made 54 runs off just 24 balls with eight fours and three maximums. Devdutt Padikkal bagged a golden duck while skipper Samson managed just 11 runs. The Protea Rassie van der Dussen got out for just six runs but Shimron Hetmyer again began to flex his muscles.

His innings, however, was cut short by Mohammed Shami on 29 runs as RR struggled in their chase. Lockie Ferguson bowled an impressive spell, finishing with figures of 3/23 in his four overs. The Titans jumped to the first position while the Royals still occupy the third spot with six points. For his all-round show, captain Hardik Pandya was declared the Player of the Match.
