Umran Malik delivered a triple-wicket maiden in the 20th over as Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) restricted Punjab Kings (PBKS) to just 151 runs, subsequently winning the encounter by seven wickets in Match 28 of IPL 2022 at the DY Patil Stadium in Navi Mumbai. Malik became only the fourth bowler in the history of IPL to bowl a maiden in the 20th over. Apart from skipper Kane Williamson, all SRH batters were amongst the runs to script a fourth successive win for their side.
Speaking about how the encounter unfolded, Williamson won the toss and SRH opted to field first. PBKS entered the match without their regular captain Mayank Agarwal, who got ruled out of the match due to injury. Prabhsimran Singh replaced him and opened the innings with stand-in skipper Shikhar Dhawan.
The top three wickets of PBKS fell cheaply before Liam Livingstone smashed another half-century in this season. The powerful right-handed batter made 60 runs off just 33 deliveries with five fours and four maximums. Shahrukh Khan amassed 26 runs off 28 balls with Bhuvneshwar Kumar picking up 3/22 in his four-over spell. Speedster Umran Malik took his career-best figures of 4/28 to go with his last over maiden.
Chasing just 152 runs for victory, captain Williamson mustered just three runs as he got dismissed by Kagiso Rabada. Abhishek Sharma and Rahul Tripathi scored 31 and 34 runs respectively before both lost their respective wickets to spinner Rahul Chahar.
Aiden Markram made an unbeaten 41 runs and Nicholas Pooran also was not out on 35 runs as both sealed the deal for SRH in the 19th over. SRH have now won four matches on the bounce and have entered the top four in the points table. For his lethal match-winning spell, Umran Malik was adjudged as the Player of the Match.
