David Miller pulled off a spectacular victory for the Gujarat Titans (GT) as he scored an unbeaten 94 runs off just 51 deliveries with eight fours and six maximums to chase down the target of 170 set by Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in Match 29 of IPL 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Stand-in skipper Rashid Khan also stole the show with the bat as he played a whirlwind inning of 40 runs off 21 balls to seal a three-wicket win for the Titans.
Speaking about how the encounter panned out, Rashid took charge for the injured Hardik Pandya as he won the toss and elected to field first. GT made two changes with Wriddhiman Saha and Alzarri Joseph coming in place of Hardik and Matthew Wade respectively. CSK went into the match with the same playing XI from the last game. Opener Ruturaj Gaikwad finally struck form as he amassed 73 runs off 48 deliveries with five fours and as many sixes.
Robin Uthappa and Moeen Ali both bagged single-digit scores with Ambati Rayudu smashing 46 runs which included four fours and two maximums. Ravindra Jadeja smashed two sixes as he remained unbeaten on 22, taking his side to a total of 169/5 in the 20 overs. Alazarri Joseph and Mohammed Shami took 2/34 and 1/20 respectively.
Chasing 170 runs for victory, Shubman Gill and Vijay Shankar both got dismissed for ducks as the latter’s poor run in the tournament continued. Wicketkeeper batter Wriddhiman Saha made 11 while Abhinav Manohar just 12 runs as GT were reduced to 48/4. It was David Miller who brought his A-game out as he remained unbeaten till the end to seal the two points for his side.
Dwayne Bravo took 3/23 while Chris Jordan had a forgettable outing with the England international leaking 58 runs in 3.5 overs with no wicket to his name. With this win, the Titans moved back to the top of the table with ten points while the Super Kings find themselves in the ninth position with just two points. For his destructive inning in a successful run-chase, David Miller was declared the Player of the Match.
