Jos Buttler continued his purple patch, slamming his fourth IPL century and third this season as the Rajasthan Royals (RR) defeated Delhi Capitals (DC) by 15 runs in Match 34 of IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai. Buttler’s outrageous form grabbed all the limelight yet again as the power-hitter scored 116 runs off just 65 deliveries with nine fours and as many maximums.

Speaking about how the encounter panned out, Rishabh Pant won the toss and opted to field first. Both the sides went into the match with the same playing XI from the last game. Buttler began from where he left off as he became only the second player after Shikhar Dhawan to hit back-to-back centuries in IPL history.

His opening partner Devdutt Padikkal notched up a 35-ball half-century while skipper Sanju Samson also joined the party, scoring uneaten 46 runs off 19 balls, which included five fours and three sixes. RR posted 222/2 in their allotted 20 overs, the highest total this season. Khaleel Ahmed leaked 47 runs with one wicket in his four overs spell while Kuldeep Yadav gave away 40 runs in just three overs.

DC openers Prithvi Shaw and David Warner got the team off to a good start but the latter got dismissed for 28 runs. Shaw also managed only 37 runs with Sarfaraz Khan amassing just one run. Captain Pant mustered 44 runs off 24 deliveries as Lalit Yadav scored 37 runs.

With 36 needed off the last over, Rovman Powell hammered three sixes off the first three balls against Obed McCoy but then controversy occurred as the third ball was not declared a no-ball which did look like one. The DC camp and especially skipper Pant lost their temper and got involved in a heated argument with the officials.

Powell was then dismissed with DC losing the encounter in a controversial manner. With this victory, RR moved to the top of the table with ten points while DC remained on sixth position with six points. For another mind-boggling century, Jos Buttler won the Player of the Match award.
