Riyan Parag smashed his second half-century in the Indian Premier League (IPL) as Rajasthan Royals (RR) posted a defendable total of 144/8 in their allotted 20 overs subsequently winning the encounter by 29 runs. All the bowlers also had a great outing as Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) were bundled out for just 115 runs to lose the match no.39 of IPL 2022 at the MCA Stadium in Pune. Kuldeep Sen was the standout performer with the ball as he took 4/20 in his 3.3 overs spell.

Speaking about how the match unfolded, skipper Faf du Plessis won the toss, and RCB elected to field first. They made just one change with out-of-form Anuj Rawat making way for Rajat Patidar. RR made two changes as Daryl Mitchell and Kuldeep Sen came in for Karun Nair and Obed McCoy respectively. The star of the tournament so far Jos Buttler got dismissed for just eight runs as RCB breathed a sigh of relief. Devdutt Padikkal made just seven runs with R Ashwin batting at no. three and scoring 17 runs off nine deliveries. Captain Samson amassed 27 runs off 21 deliveries with one four and three maximums. But it was all about Parag then as the Assam-born batter slammed an unbeaten 56 runs off 31 balls with three fours and four sixes. His highest score in the IPL helped his side in reaching a good total at the end of the innings.

Chasing just 145 runs to win, Virat Kohli who opened the innings, got out for just nine runs as his horrendous form in this season continued. Skipper du Plessis mustered 23 runs while Rajat Patidar made a run a ball 16 runs. Glenn Maxwell bagged a golden duck, the most by an overseas player in the league now. Shahbaz Ahmed struggled for his 17 runs off 27 deliveries with the savior of the team Dinesh Karthik getting run-out for just six runs. Ashwin took three wickets for 17 runs in his four-overs spell while Prasidh Krishna also bowled a brilliant spell of 2/23. With this win, the Men in Blue and Pink moved to the top of the table with 12 points as RCB occupy the fifth spot with ten points. For his match-winning half-century and great efforts on the field, Riyan Parag won the Player of the Match award.
