Gujarat Titans became the victorious team in the battle of the two new teams in this year’s IPL. Mohammed Shami was the wrecker-in-chief for the Titans as he took three wickets in the powerplay to break the back of the Lucknow Super Giants’ (LSG) batting line-up. Ayush Badoni’s fifty on his IPL debut went in vain as the Titans defeated the Super Giants by five wickets in Match 4 of the IPL 2022 at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai.

Gujarat skipper Hardik Pandya won the toss and opted to field first. LSG captain KL Rahul was dismissed off the very first ball of the match by an impressive Shami. Quinton de Kock, Evin Lewis, and Manish Pandey didn’t do much as they all got out under 15 runs. All-rounder Deepak Hooda and debutant Ayush Badoni then came to the rescue as both slammed their respective fifties. LSG posted 158/6 in their allotted 20 overs, with Varun Aaron and Rashid Khan also amongst the wickets.

Chasing 159, Shubman Gill also registered his second duck in the IPL as Dushmantha Chameera replicated Shami’s performance by picking up two early wickets. Matthew Wade and David Miller both scored 30 runs with skipper Hardik mustering 33. It was Rahul Tewatia who struck a quickfire unbeaten 40 runs off just 24 deliveries to take his side home for a maiden victory. Abhinav Manohar also played a cameo of 15 runs off seven balls with three fours. Mohammed Shami for his opening-spell burst and figures of 3/25 in four overs was adjudged the Player of the Match award.
